William,
I am curious as to what you are basing this statement on?
I was under the assumption that .brickshops was created to remove the
discussion of the operation of such third party shops as brickbay out of the
.BST group. If memory serves me correctly, it was created at a time when
there were many problems with the stability of Brickbay and .BST was quite
cluttered with chatter about it.
The charter for .brickshops seems to bear this out:
Discussions and informational postings related to personal online
LEGO-related "shops" and third-party buyer/seller services
(BrickBay, etc.)
Whereas the charter for .BST states:
Community trading post, items wanted, items for straight sale (no
auctions), experiences, market analysis, etc.
I guess that the answer to your question depends on just what it is that is
being announced. If I have added parts to my shop, those parts are being
offered for straight sale, and I believe this announcement would belong in
.BST. This is the group, after all, where people interested in buying Lego
would be looking for information on where to get it.
If I were the administrator of such a site, and I wanted to announce
scheduled maintenance, an outage, service changes, etc., then I believe that
is the domain of .brickshops. Also, as a user of such a site, if I wanted
to discuss things such as the operation of the site, fees, availability,
etc. with other users of the site, then I would go to .brickshops.
.Brickshops doesn't seem to get much of this type of traffic. This is most
likely because Brickbay now has its own discussion forum where these things
are discussed. About the only thing this leaves is chatter when Brickbay is
down, which fortunately doesn't happen too often anymore.
Now, I have noticed that some sellers do post their updates in both groups,
and I do believe this to be incorrect. I just differ from your opinion in
that I think sale announcements belong in .BST and NOT in .brickshops.
