This is probably doable as long as a lot of people turn up.  Unfortunately
air travel is not generally considered compatible with large MOCs.  Armies
(bags of figs and a few sturdy vehicles) are fine - stately Melbournian
residences might have difficulty surviving Virgin Blue's baggage handlers

Which is why I choose to fly Qantas ;-)

Hmmm. I also chose Qantas (they had the cheapest fares when I booked!) and
still suffered minor damage, even though my stuff was packed in a large box
with packing foam, which was then packed inside a suitcase, surrounded by
clothing!

There's no way to protect against luggage chuckers!

Maybe there is...

When I flew up to Brisbane, I was on the same flight as the Australian
Chamber Orchestra. Their 'cellos get a seat each. And a special 'cello
seatbelt each.

Now a 'cello is definitely outside the carry-on guidelines... maybe you
could belt your MOC next to you (if the airline doesn't like this, you could
always borrow a 'cello case for the trip..).

Mind you.... you may have a hard time crawling around under the seats to
find the bits that fall off.

But an extra ticket (even a cheap one) for a MOC might be a tad extravagant.

Cheers
