I replied to this yesterday, but my post seems to have disappeared in the
changeover to email verification:

Are the any up-coming financial thingys that may affect the exchange rate
that I ought know about and hence exchange before/after?

Dunno. Exchange rate relatively good right now. Relative to  couple of
months ago, anyway.
The $A has been on a fairly constant downward slide against the US$ for 30+
years (possibly since WWII?) - I can still remember US$2=$A1 rates from my
childhood.

Given this, James should buy now to take advantage of this hiccup, Ross
should wait a bit longer...

It may continue up, in which caase you might wanna wait, or more
likely it'll slump again to new lows, in which case you'd be better buying
up today.

Never underestimate the power of a federal election (Nov 17 is my guess -
maximum inconvenience to me!) to influence things. Does the government
appeal to the financial sector (& superannuants etc) or the people??? Do
interest rates (& the dollar) go up or down? Are you as cynical as me about
these things?
