Another bit of info...BigW has Mickeys fire truck at $12 or • so, yet in the
US it's $10US, and in Canada, $14 Can [1]...Does this mean:
1) World parity pricing where it matters :)
2) Mickey Mouse isn't popular here, and the cheap price is • to get interest
3) LA were forced to bring the sets in and want to be rid of • them as soon as
possible. [This would also explain the soccer sets :) ]
4) Some other obscure reason

It'd be interesting to find out which of the above is the reason :)

[1] from a post in lugnet.general recently, complaining • about prices...It's
nice to know that the Seppo's don't mind others having to • pay top$, but if
they have to pay a higher price they think everyone is • against them [similar
thing when the sets they want aren't available in the • US...Castle sets with
silver armor, etc.] <G,D&R>

What are you saying exactly? I didn't quite follow it (I was
partly steamed at
the use of the rather derogatory rhyming slang term for
Yanks... that wasn't
nice :-) )

Well, I like to be able to keep Aussie slang alive. I actually prefer Aussie
slang to the Seppo stuff flooding our country...Anyway, being an Aussie
forum, I think we should be free to use any Aussie slang we like and to have
Seppo phrases excluded :-)

Everything I've seen so far is more expensive here than it is
in the US.
*everything*... As I've said before I think that has more to
do with the
overall choices your society has made about levels of
taxation and services
you want to have than it does with a TLC conspiracy to stick
it to the "lucky
country".

I don't doubt this...But do your observations take into account the diffence
in $aus to $us, or are you working on a $1 Aus = $1 US conversion?

As to TLG...Up to july this year, LA was charging extremely high prices.
Since LD started talks with LA about selling in Aus, these prices have come
down [to the same as or lower than US prices in many cases: soccer, mickey,
Toolo2]. The problem with this is that it shows that the bosses of LA have
been enjoying the benefits of having a monopoly in this country.

I *do* mind "others having to pay top prices", I think it's
always a shame
when a country has decided that other things are more
important to them than
letting the free market set low prices efficiently. But it's
your country and
you should be able to run it as you wish.

I wasn't actually referring to you in particular, but I was talking about
the way that your countrymen seem to expect that everything be arranged for
their benefit, and they don't seem to care about anyone else.

Anyway, as I stated above, it's more a problem with LA and their little
empire here that is soon to be threatened by LD....Anyone want to bet that:
1) LA is dropping their prices, as they are worried that LD will take all
their sales.
2) As the start-up date for LD in Aus gets closer, prices will drop a little
more.
3) The reason LD isn't in Aus yet is BECAUSE of LA...they wanted time to try
and get a bigger market by lowering prices, and they wanted to have this in
place for 12 months so that LD won't cause a sudden drop in LA's sales?
[Maybe this is why BradJ had to change from late this year to late next?]
