I *do* mind "others having to pay top prices", I think it's always a shame
when a country has decided that other things are more important to them than
letting the free market set low prices efficiently. But it's your country and
you should be able to run it as you wish.

Ah, Larry is a true capitalistic pig dog troll! :)  ...of course, this is
coming from someone who is proudly communist, so take it in accordance with
your own worldview.  (I'm communist in the Marxist sense, not in the real world
sense, in the RW, I'd be a socialist-here, a NDP'er).

I'm however, somewhat supprised by the price of Lego in Aus. in comparison to
here in Canada.  We both have relatively high taxation (much to Lar's dismay!),
but Lego is _far_ more expensive in Aus. than it is here.

To give a decent example:  set <7191> here in St John's, NF, Canada runs for
about 200 CDN.  The Aus. dollar is a little worse than ours right now (at
.61/usd, rather than .67 or so), but not $157 difference!.  That's right, the
aussies are paying $359.99 for a set that I can get for $199 CDN! (at 199 cdn,
it starts to look attractive to resale to the US _if_ I get a sale to save the
15% tax on it here)

(...) Part of that probably has to do with the fact that shipping from Enfield, CT to Canada is cheap and fast. Shipping from Europe (Denmark and Switzerland) to Australia is both expensive and slow. The cost of shipping has obvious effects. The (...) (24 years ago, 6-Sep-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, lugnet.loc.au)

(...) What are you saying exactly? I didn't quite follow it (I was partly steamed at the use of the rather derogatory rhyming slang term for Yanks... that wasn't nice :-) ). Everything I've seen so far is more expensive here than it is in the US. (...) (24 years ago, 5-Sep-00, to lugnet.loc.au, lugnet.org.au)
