Some of these sets should produce odd results in Richie's ppp analysis.
Anything with an elephant pumps the price up and piece count down.

Hence the importance of using volume rather than piece count in such
analysis. The elephant is clearly a large volume piece and one must not
compare the cost of elephants directly with the cost of (say) 1x1 bricks. Of
course, if you use only volume metrics, then you will probably conclude that
Jack Stone and his Juniorised friends are damn good value.

So, it seems to me that we need to establish a parts database that contains:

1) volume data
2) re-use data
3) rarity data

then, using tools like bricktrak, we can compute the value of a set in a
number of exciting ways.

Of course, the ultimate metric is for each of us to record our enthusiasm
for every individual part on some scale ranging from "would not let it cross
my threshold" through to "I would sell my children to get this part". Then
using bricktrack any set (or other collection of parts) can be instantly
calculated to determine its interest to any given user. Then all the user
has to do is set a threshold price-per-unit-of-interest and a spending limit
and let the tool go bezerk on the user's behalf purchasing on bricklink and
ebay within those parameters.

Probably old news for those with glazed eyes.... but the Adventurers Orient Expedition sets are available to peruse in the Australian section. They even have the box images for those appreciators of cardboard products. Some of these sets should (...) (22 years ago, 19-Dec-02, to lugnet.loc.au)
