No, they shouldn't feel that way. They should feel silly.
I have been offered 6067 for approx. $65 USD and still refused it -- it just
wasn't worth it to me. I will gladly buy several Guarded Inns for $25 a pop.
Anyone paying really crazy prices for sets or elements does it knowing that
they are being stupid. How do I know? I have paid $15 USD for just the red
maiden hat before!
Then again, I have enjoyed having such elements to play with in the meanwhile.
I blame myself and not the sellers for my own foolishness.

And I don't feel bad about having paid $3 each for Guarded Inn walls. I
probably would still consider paying that much (but don't worry, I'll be
lining up a decent order of these tomorrow, I've been plotting how to do
something with the 4 sets of walls I currently have, another 4 or 8 or
12 sets will make a real nice Inn).

Maybe, maybe not.
This always comes up if you are in this situation and you need to evaluate,
was it worth it to you to have it back then instead of waiting till later? I
know my answer would be that it is worth it. There is a time value to money,
and a money value to time.

I am hoping/dreading that one of the next sets will be 497. Hoping,
because I would love to buy a small fleet of them. Dreading, because
I just purchased my first on Ebay and would feel like an idiot. I
guess better an idiot with a fleet than an idiot with just 1. I guess
I will just have to buy a bunch to lower the average price paid. Of
course this would not be so bad if it were not for the fact that I
just won the auction and have not even received the set yet

Heck, the set really doesn't impress me much. I DO like the Tudor walls, and
would love to be able to buy the straight and corner ones separately in bulk, so I
could build decent-sized buildings. I DO like the hanging sign. I LOVE the blue
chalice (so if anyone parts any out...). Beyond that, there's not much there to
excite me.
But I WILL be buying 1-2 for display, and probably a few more for parts.
I can't wait to see what else is brought out, especially TOWN. That's got to be a
heated argument if the set hasn't been decided. PLEASE, not Police/Fire
stations! While I'd love the garage doors, if you're going to go for a garage
door set, think 6369, 6383 (oh yeah!), 6391 or 6597.

I think some other set also had a blue chalice. I recently bought a
bunch on Brickbay (leaving the sign as the only part I'm currently
missing from being able to build a Guarded Inn, of course in a few weeks
I'll be able to make all the Guarded Inns I want...)

I too am happy about the Legends series. It is great that LD is making so many people
happy.
But I still want expanded Bulk Orders. Some clear bricks and 2x2 windows (blue,
yellow) would be nice, as well as some macaroni bricks in many colors. Ditto for the
2x2 round bricks.
My favorite candidates for Legends are 396 (Thatcher Perkins) and 384/760 (London
Bus). The Thatcher Perkins probably won't be made (spoked wheels and rod/piston set),
but the London Bus, which has 24 town windows, would be an awesome addition. That
would however get back to the question of whether the classic window molds (1x4x2,
1x3x2 and 1x1x1) are sill available.

Actually, I bought my 2 copies years ago, when Lego Mania Magazine used to
include discounted new releases and sale items. I think I paid $16 each for
them.

My favourite would be a 398 U.S.S. Constellation... let's hope they still
have the old 1x1 window moulds. Those windows would be great for bulk sale
too!

Great idea -- why not leverage the production costs for the wall pieces by
producing a US$5 "Inn Expansion Set": 2 tudor straight walls, 2 Tudor corner
walls, and some black slopes and bricks?

straight walls. Otherwise, you'd only be building skinny towers over time, to use
up all the excess corners.

IMHO.. Any time you put more than one kind of part into a pack, you run into
the problem of how many of each to put in. This is true EVEN when the parts
are "paired" like hinge tops and bottoms. So this is a real challenge. No
possible assortment can please everyone. And offering each part separately
isn't practical yet.
In this case I would agree with Tom, that a higher straight ratio is likely
to be better for the majority of builders, but in general, who can say?

I suspect that the number of builders who would have serious problems would be
relatively small. One way you can get a higher ratio of corners would be to buy
more Guarded Inn sets (may not be terribly practical depending on your ability
to use the other parts), the other way would be to trade with folks who don't
want the corners at all (this last would probably result in AFOLs over all
having more corners than they want).
Of course I'm not that convinced that a red tudor wall parts pack would sell
all that well, though I guess if it were reasonably priced we would see a bunch
of towns with several red tudor buildings.
I agree with others though that a parts pack would be better off with white
tudor walls.

Whatever premium you paid for your first (at least current first) #497 will
be completely worth the joy of building something that you found to be so
valuable. The #497 was obviously worth (to you) the price you paid for it.
If you can get more at a cheaper price, all the better, but buying something
at a mutually agreable price based on the best information available to you
certainly doesn't make you an idiot.
The rerelease of #497 would instantly bring me out of my current buying
slump. My son would be thrilled to get one he can play with any time.
