Also, I wanted to mention one general note about online ordering through
Shop At Home. In order to avoid overselling products and having to cancel
orders once a product is sold out, there is a cut off when the product
inventory reaches a certain point.

I'm very sorry to say, this feature is *not* working.

I placed my order for some of the spare parts packs early on May 3,
all of which (except 5162) were listed as "Available".
(5162 was listed as "Backordered").
In fact, they remained listed as "Available" for many hours after
I placed my order.

I just now got an email stating these items are no longer available:

5138 Castle Accessories
5393 Hats and Wigs
5187 Bricks with Groove and Garage Panels
5162 Fences and Gates

and my order was being *Cancelled* and replaced by a new "P" series
order without these items.

I am really suspicious that I got knocked to the back of the queue
for some reason and I am wondering why.  Did anyone else get a
cancellation notice like this?

Jake, right now I am a *very* unhappy customer.

Ahh, you've been "WBed" (1)... Obviously the web ordering does not
interface with a live inventory, which means that it can oversell. The
service packs were going fast enough that a "buffer" doesn't help.
Fortunately, I think the phone orders do interract more closely with the
live inventory (though Lindsay did report getting a call back to reduce
the count on one item, but that may have been a problem that the real
inventory didn't match the online inventory). The question is whether
LEGO Direct will have the incentive to truly fix this. In general, they
shouldn't have the types of runs on product which exposes this.

I don't want to hear this.  I really, really don't want to hear
this.  But on the positive side, I'm now really really glad I
did my orders (and those by proxy for another person) by telephone.

However, yes, I did get one call back on Monday amending one
quantity by one item (5200).  S@H Europe seemed to be fairly
good about it, although they might have been testing to make
   sure I really do exist.

(Oh, and for those who may care, I called today and all of my
packages and proxy packages pending have been shipped.  That's
fulfillment within 48 hours, which is pretty good from where
I'm sitting.  There are no indications that any other quantities
   were changed.)

   best

   Lindsay

(...) I definitely care! Could you please let us know whether you ordered any of the items I listed: (...) and when you placed your order? Thanks, /Eric McC/ (23 years ago, 8-May-01, to lugnet.lego.direct)
