Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) While I'm very very happy to see something like this happening, I will not be able to participate becuase I (like a few others here it seems) do not use Windows. This page (URL) states "LEGO Digital Designer is not Apple Macintosh compatible." (...) (20 years ago, 9-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) It had been indeed often been topic of debate, but I am afraid economics dictate this. As only 5-10% is non-PC user, it does not make business sense to develop a mac version. On the other hand, it is well known that the "average" Mac user has (...) (20 years ago, 9-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) Yeah. Wish I could try it too. Bummer. Graphic Designer and Mac user for 14 years. -Grand Admiral .space Curator (URL) (20 years ago, 9-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego, FTX)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) I'm happy about it too. Just so you don't feel left out, there are a lot of PC users (like me) who can't use this either because of the hefty system requirements of DD. Mainly, I feel I am missing out on seeing the cool files that have been (...) (20 years ago, 9-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

snippage (...) The requirements are pretty low by todays standard. MegaHertz is almost a word of the past. I can't really talk too loudly. My fastest computer is a 800MHz. I'm so almost obsolete Minimum System Requirements Operating system: Windows (...) (20 years ago, 9-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) You can probably buy an entire system that meets the minimum requirements for around $100 (or upgrade for even less). I managed to save that much in a few months as a teenager earning a $10-15 every 2 weeks allowance. -Orion (20 years ago, 9-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) I'm also a Mac user, and am bummed that I won't be able to try this. Something hits a nerve anytime anyone brings up the market share issue. Granted, Apple's market share is pretty low among BUSINESS users. In schools and homes - which is (...) (20 years ago, 10-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) Are you (general MAC-you, no one person in particular) trying to tell me (a PC-user) that MAC's don't have emulators to run non-MAC software on a MAC? I find that hard to believe. I even have an emulator to run MSX-games on my PC. I believe a (...) (20 years ago, 10-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

Hi Jake, hi Ray, (...) as a Linux user I also don't like this restriction. I don't mind much that the software doesn't run under Linux. But I do mind if this is used to exclude non-MS-Windows users from community activities. Please allow entries in (...) (20 years ago, 10-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

Yeah, a Mac or Linux version would be nice, but we will never see them. I don't have any inside info, but I would assume that TLC's programmers did the following things: * Deeply based the software on proprietary Microsoft-specific techonology that (...) (20 years ago, 10-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) I'd say. The budget PC I built myself two years ago exceeds all fo these specs by at least 2X. The fact that they claim it will run on 98 (not just 98SE) is far better than most software I see today. Even my brother's old Gateway that's (...) (20 years ago, 12-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) Well for me the program just does not work and my machine meets or exceeds all of these requirements so there is something else at work here if you ask me. My System Windows XP (Service Pack II) Pentium 4 16 MB Graphics Card with DirectX 8.0 (...) (20 years ago, 12-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) I don't know who else has had success with a 16 MB graphics card, there is probably some. One of my systems had a 16 MB card and I had the same results you had. What's kind of odd is it works on my oldest system that I've got online. Windows (...) (20 years ago, 12-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) Thanks for the Info Thomas, it would be nice if others with 16MB Graphic Cards could post their results. Maybe it is possible that the minimum specs need to be changed a bit. Eric Kingsley (...) (20 years ago, 12-Nov-04, to lugnet.lego)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) The only emulator that I know of is Microsoft's own Virtual PC. It comes in various flavors, starting at about $120 US. That seems a little steep just for running a little (and free) Lego app. But yes, it is an option. (20 years ago, 13-Nov-04, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: LEGOfactory.com launches... and it's big!

(...) This oft-cited argument simply does not hold water. If it did, there would be no software for the Mac at all; but on the contrary, all the biggest game and other software developers deploy Mac versions of their products. The reasons are fairly (...) (20 years ago, 13-Feb-05, to lugnet.lego)
