This oft-cited argument simply does not hold water. If it did, there would be
no software for the Mac at all; but on the contrary, all the biggest game and
other software developers deploy Mac versions of their products. The reasons
are fairly simple: Mac software has a much longer shelf life, and also quite a
bit less competition (since most smaller developers do not bother to write
cross-platform software). As a result, a good title -- especially something
that appeals to non-traditional gamers -- can generate substantial revenue on
the Mac platform. For "The Sims" for example -- the most successful computer
game of all time -- Mac sales are equal to the PC sales.
This is clearly another area where the market is non-traditional gamers, and the
Mac market could prove to be just as substantial for it.
In addition, if you choose your development environment carefully, it hardly
costs any more to develop simultaneously for Mac, Linux, and Windows, than it
does to develop for just one. See REALbasic for example -- click a checkbox for
which platforms you want, and send it to testing.
TLC's continuous neglect of Mac users is my primary disappointment with the
company, and it's sad to see this disappointment continued with the LEGO Factory
program.
