Re: Whats the deal with the Harry Potter sets?

(...) Without trying to be glib, I think it's the Harry Potter name that is selling these sets. The books are terrific stuff. They appeal to both kids and adults. They are well-written and entertaining. But the LEGO sets rely almost entirely on that (...) (23 years ago, 16-Nov-01, to lugnet.harrypotter)

Re: Whats the deal with the Harry Potter sets?

(...) It's not strange to think that IMO, but I have a suggestion: take another look at the HP line, only this time, try to imagine it through the eyes of a 10 year old. I think you will find that it has much more appeal. As an exclusively MOC (...) (23 years ago, 15-Nov-01, to lugnet.harrypotter)

Re: Whats the deal with the Harry Potter sets?

(...) Colours are not too bad. In fact, it is kind of useful to have these colours around (let's say I'm trying to make a psicadelic diorama... ;-) IMO, most of the sets are like you say: a bunch of parts thrown together, and looking marginally (...)   Whats the deal with the Harry Potter sets?

This may sound strange, and i am not trying to slam HP fans or start a flame war or anything, but i look at the designs, and i am really disappointed. They just seem kind of haphazard and thrown together. The colour schemes also don't do anything (...) (23 years ago, 15-Nov-01, to lugnet.harrypotter)

Perfect description of Hagrid's roof (funny!)

It was kinda quiet at work today (video store) so I decided to take a closer look at the parts for Hagrid's Hut, Snape's class, and Diagon Alley which I just happened to have with me. When I showed my co-worker the fabric/plastic sheet that was the (...) (23 years ago, 13-Nov-01, to lugnet.harrypotter)

  Re: Saw the movie today!

(...) Never mind Harry Potter, did you get your "Shrek" DVD yesterday? Notice the <set:4559> Cargo Railway running around the monitor of one of the animators in "The Tech of Shrek" feature. Jason J Railton (23 years ago, 13-Nov-01, to lugnet.loc.uk, lugnet.harrypotter, lugnet.trains)

  Re: Harry Potter sets' pricing

Hi James, I found things in England to be a lot more expensive than in Continental Europe (Portugal, Spain, France, Germany,...). I think it has something to do with the pound (GBP) being overrated, and frequently becoming even more valuable. This (...) (23 years ago, 12-Nov-01, to lugnet.harrypotter)

  Re: Saw the movie today!

In lugnet.loc.uk, Simon Bennett writes: Just one question, (...) It'll be broken down into 2 feature length movies. Instead of just one super long 6hr film. The first will be during the Thanksgivin' day holiday, the second during Christmass... of (...) (23 years ago, 12-Nov-01, to lugnet.loc.uk, lugnet.harrypotter)

  Re: Saw the movie today!

(...) Plus it had a new LOTR trailer, in which everything was even closer to how I imagined it than HP was!!! I loved HP&TPS. Despite it being a 2.5 hour film all the kids in the cinema were rapt throughout, there is little greater praise. Just one (...) (23 years ago, 12-Nov-01, to lugnet.loc.uk, lugnet.harrypotter)

  Re: Harry Potter sets' pricing

You'll find they are much cheaper in the USA. For example in England the sets sell for the follow prices: Hogwart's Castle £79.99 (nearly $120) Hogwart's Express £39.99 (nearly $60) Hagrid's Hut £24.99 (over $35) The difference in price in the (...)   Re: Harry Potter sets' pricing

(...) Thank you, Ken. It was just as I thought: my local TRU is trying to rip me off... :-( (I did not know, but the EUR symbol isn't accepted yet in this newsgroup - hence, the "?" before the "35". Sorry 'bout this) Pedro (...) (23 years ago, 11-Nov-01, to lugnet.harrypotter)

  Harry Potter sets' pricing

Hi, Potter fans! I have been trying to find reference for Harry Potter sets' pricing, but I was unable to find any. Can someone give me some assistance in this search?   Saw the movie today!

I'm glad to say it does live up to all the hype. Everything shown is exactly as I imagined it to be, having read the books. My only reservation is that, understandably, the story has been abbreviated, so consequently some of the characters or scenes (...) (23 years ago, 10-Nov-01, to lugnet.loc.uk, lugnet.harrypotter)
