  Re: I'm famous (or infamous)

Hey Joseph, Congratulations!!! Like the late pop artist Andy Warhol once said, "everyone is famous for 15 minutes". Maybe you've still got another 13 minutes to go! Gary Istok (...) (25 years ago, 6-Oct-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.people)

Lego Article (Re: I'm famous (or infamous))

(...) Thanks, Gary. Here is a copy of the article (portions of it appeared in my statewide newspaper's business section today). I'm also supposed to do a little interview with a local radio station on Friday. THANKS, Poilin!!! ---...--- Lego Uses (...) (25 years ago, 6-Oct-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.people)

(...) <snip most of article> (...) So, um, is it just me who's wondering where Lego gets off telling us we aren't a market force? James (URL) (25 years ago, 6-Oct-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.people)

James Brown: [...] (...) ^^^^ (...) It is only "some" of the 4e9 DKK that are bought by adult men for themselves. The question that is interesting from our point of view is how much LEGO is bought _for_ adults, not by adults. Apparently nobody knows (...)   Re: Lego Article (Re: I'm famous (or infamous))

And if they (TLG) knew that, what could they do ? Lego ads in Sports Illustrated or The Economist ? ;) I'll make a SWAG (scientific wild-assed guess) of 5-10% of sales. Anyone have any better intel ? Ray (...) (25 years ago, 6-Oct-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.people)

Re: Lego Article (Re: I'm famous (or infamous))

Hey Joseph, On the radio interview, you may wish to mention the fact that TLG has sort of ignores the adult LEGO population. Bulk sales are an example of this. No need to badmouth the company, just tone it into a polite way of saying that they could (...) (25 years ago, 6-Oct-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.people)

Re: Lego Article (Re: I'm famous (or infamous))

(...) Good tip, Gary. I'll see if I can tie the adult market in with a nod to Lugnet and its participants. The interview is for one of those goofy "morning" shows, so I don't have much hope for any serious questions but any press we AFOLs can get (...) Well, if it's a goofy show, they might be bringing you in to make fun of you ;-) Make sure to take some killer cool sets - Star Wars, Technic, etc, with you, to show why you are playing with "toys". (...) ** EXCELLENT ** Very nice quote, Joseph!!! I am reading an excellent book called "Rainmaking", and while it is about sales, it makes the point that once you have been quoted as a source by media, you may well get asked again.   Re: Lego Article (Re: I'm famous (or infamous))

(...) Nope, no better intel, but my feeling is this: women do most of the gift-buying, especially for kids. When men buy gifts, it's for a woman. So, when males are buying LEGO, it is likely they are buying for themselves. I'd put it as high as (...) (25 years ago, 7-Oct-99, to lugnet.general, lugnet.people)
