Snipped Daves buying frenzies...

Anyway, thoughts?

I rarely buy used Lego anymore, mostly because I still have way too much that is
unsorted currently in my collection.

Most of the used pieces I did buy came from lots on ebay, some of them were
worth way more than I spent, and others were a waste of time and money.  Since
its ebay, the ability to haggle doesnt come up, but I usually do set a preset
limit so I dont fall into last minute buyers remorse. The two best deal I ever
got was a technic control centre (at the time I bought it I had no idea what it
was) for 99 cents and clear baseplates for the price of grey. Worst deal was a
lot of pink and other pastel bricks that turned out to be knock off brands
although the listing said Lego.

Once it arrives, the procedure is usually the same.. during a quick sort, to
remove non-Lego (Barbie shoes, pennies, GI Joe weapons, etc), or obviously
damaged parts, I drop them in super hot and soapy water for the first cleaning.
After that, depending on how large of a lot, and how dirty, I will either go for
a second cleaning, in sections, or do the whole lot as one, of course, there
sometimes is a selective cleaning with more toxic chemicals (for old, or
yellowed parts that are too rare to toss).

I also really love being at shows with other builders and buying a bin or two
(If I can find 'em) and having my LEGO buddies say whilst going thru 'em--"Wow!
I've never seen this piece before" and just give it to 'em.

Even tho I often pass up on these "yard" sales lately, I do love it when you do
buy since I love going thru your newest finds.  Not only is it a fun way to kill
some show hours, I have been lucky to be one of the many that you have shared
your bounty with.  In fact, a large portion of my homemaker cupboards alone come
from your many finds, smile.

(since things are plenty quiet around here :) ) So you're at a show or flea market or somewheres where there are those selling their wares... You happen to notice a bin/tote/garbage can/whathaveyou full of LEGO bricks. Do you get immediately (...) (17 years ago, 5-Dec-07, to lugnet.general)
