Starting in 1963 Britain had their own Town Plan set and Town Plan board,

Here is an example of a British #810 Town Plan recently sold in Australia on
EBAY:

Also of note in those pictures are UK-only versions of the accessories (1) like
the cantilever covered petrol pumps (although an incomplete containental version
is also shown), the round top Esso sign, the round top street lights, and the
road signs (2).

Curious to me is the appearance of hollow bottom trees in this set. I thought
those trees only appeared with studded baseplates. I usually see flat bottom
trees (3) with this set. If they are original that would tend to date this set
later in its run. I was also surprised to see the Benzin version of the truck,
rather than the Esso (4).

Ah, Clark Stephens (another person helping me with the Lego CD),

I too was curious about the hollow bottom trees in this set, until I looked at
my notes, and found that there were 2 variations of the #810 British Town Plan
set.  From what it appears, the first variation (1963-64?) had the Bedford
trucks and flat bottomed trees/bushes, and the second variation (1965-66?) had
Mercedes trucks and hollow bottomed trees/bushes.

In this instance, it appears that the only Mercedes trucks were the Fire Truck
and the Tow Truck.  The Delivery Truck, Flatbed Truck and Esso Tanker are all
Bedford trucks. (Sigh, another variation!)

I too was surprised by the "BENZIN ESSO SMOREOLIE" tanker sign (in German and
Danish), istead of the "ESSO EXTRA MOTOR OIL" tanker sign in English that one
would expect.
