I see what you mean. When I looked through Jake’s book I was disappointed in
what it didn’t contain as well as the really expensive parts that were found in
some of the models. Granted the models look awesome but I would honestly explore
other options to build an engine. Maybe a model off of the bi portal site or
build your own. You can always use Jake’s book and brickshelf for ideas.
When it comes to the special parts that haven’t been around in a while I just
stay away. this is partly because I would like to keep my models simple enough
that anyone can find the parts in there collection and I also build 8 wide which
for the most part means I don't need them.
