    Which weighs more? —David Simmons
Hey all, In my latest project (making a Gunstar) I'm using a lot of 1x16 Technic beams, however there are two where I'm using none of the friction peg holes for anything. Would a regular 1x16 beam weigh less or more? I'm trying to reduce weight (...) (22 years ago, 3-Mar-03, to lugnet.general)

(...) My guess is the technic beam would probably weigh slightly more. ROSCO (22 years ago, 4-Mar-03, to lugnet.general)

Nope, My scale shows: 1x16 regular brick: 6 grams 1x16 Technic beam: 5 grams Eric Harshbarger (...) (22 years ago, 4-Mar-03, to lugnet.general)

(...) Amazing!(1) And quite counterintuitive, if you ask me. Volume and surface are not always tightly correlated but the Technic beam has lots more surface area. 1 - I'm assuming you actually weighed 50 of each and did the math or whatever. I have (...)       (...) You can actually use nothing but LEGO bricks to answer the original question. Since the question was "Which weighs more?" I went on the assumption that he didn't care "how much does each beam weigh?" but rather which one is heavier as compared (...) (22 years ago, 4-Mar-03, to lugnet.general)

(...) Hmmm interesting. My conclusion from that would be that the "cylinder" containing the holes is significantly thinner than the brick walls. ROSCO (22 years ago, 4-Mar-03, to lugnet.general)

Re: Which weighs more? —Manfred Moolhuysen
(...) Look a little bit harder. Note that the bottom studs, in a normal brick extending all the way up, are interupted by the pegholes in a technic brick. I estimate that the surface to subtract for the two holes in the brick wall and the surface to (...) (22 years ago, 6-Mar-03, to lugnet.general)

     (...) I've never seen a non-Technic 1x16 beam. (22 years ago, 4-Mar-03, to lugnet.general)

Re: Which weighs more? —Allan Bedford
(...) I had never seen one until two tan ones showed up in Yoda. However, I just call them 1 x 16 'bricks'. I only think of 'beam' when referring to the Technic versions. I'm not sure how much it matters... they're both LEGO pieces. :) Here's a list (...) (22 years ago, 4-Mar-03, to lugnet.general)

Re: Which weighs more? —Christopher Tracey
(...) from a thread about two years ago- of course this is half the length you need. (URL) brick = 3.06061 g 1x8 technic brk = 2.89084 g It's interesting to note the relative mass per stud appears to decrease as the length of the brick increases. I (...)         Re: Which weighs more? —Eric Harshbarger
I would bet that this decrease in mass/stud as the brick lengthens has to do with the fact that for the smaller bricks the end 'walls' account for more volume on a percentage basis. eric (...) (22 years ago, 6-Mar-03, to lugnet.general)
