  LEGO NBA Draft has started...

Here are some shots of the first pics....looks like some people's wishes might have come true. (URL) (22 years ago, 29-Oct-02, to lugnet.general) !!

Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...

(...) Woo-hoo! Bring on Mace and Lando! Very interestingly, they have two colors here. I'll have to display my basketball ignorance here, but I don't know the players Kukoc and Kidd. Does the tan head indicate an African-American with a lighter (...) (22 years ago, 29-Oct-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build.minifigs, lugnet.starwars)

Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...

(...) Kukoc is caucasian, so it looks like they got around the "yellow" issue by making black and white players with out using yellow. That kind of keeps a balance in the LEGO world. jt (22 years ago, 29-Oct-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build.minifigs, lugnet.starwars)

Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...

(...) as to use brown/tan legs, with printed 'shorts'? Nice job on the faces and jerseys, though!! JohnG, GMLTC (22 years ago, 29-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)

Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...

(...) Interesting. I have always though that players 'off-court/field' etc. actions don't matter to me. Suddenly they might. I think Jason Kidd is a great ball player,....but the spousal abuse....(and I don't know anything about Bryant or Kukoc). I (...) (22 years ago, 29-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)

Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...

(...) What's the source on these? The figs almost look like they're not real, like they're from a video game or something. I'm very pleased that they chose to go with brown and tan, to differentiate these "real life" figs from the uniform yellow (...) (22 years ago, 29-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)

Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...

(...) The shots are from the flash movie at www.lego.com/sports jt (22 years ago, 29-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)

Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...

To All, OK, I am really getting confused here, maybe someone can help me. Now we have real NBA players in this LEGO draft. Are they going to be made in minifigs in some kind of sets then? Is this just a hype / Flash webpage thing? If so, it is (...) (22 years ago, 29-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)

Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...

(...) According to the press release on the LEGO site they will be sold as sets, here is part of the press release: "Beginning Oct. 28, children can visit www.LEGO.com/sports to find out the first three NBA players who will be featured as LEGO (...) (22 years ago, 29-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)

Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...

James & All, (...) Thanks, James, for the info. So they will have these minifigs in separate sets, kind of like the SW minifig sets then. Are they making these just for the NBA sets, or will they start putting them in other sets, the obvious ones (...) (22 years ago, 29-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)

Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...

(...) Based on this bit of info, it's conceivable that the flesh-toned figs may only be available in the 'collectible, real-life player sets', while the regular NBA sets could still have generic yellow figs... J (22 years ago, 29-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)

Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...

<snip> (...) They (TLC) can always say that SW is fantasy (not real) while the NBA is real. In essence you will nevere real met Luke Skywalker, but you can really met Micheal Jordan? Luke after all is played by an actor. Which in theory you can met (...) (22 years ago, 30-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)

Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...

(...) Don't feel bad about not knowing Toni Kukoc, he was a pretty good role player with the Chicago Bulls during the Jordan era, but has done little else of note since then. He is from Croatia, so naturally he is white. Kobe Bryant is black, (...) (22 years ago, 30-Oct-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build.minifigs, lugnet.starwars)

Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...

(...) It's not like my opinion will mean anything, but I'm against flesh/brown minifigs (I already posted on this issue some time ago). If TLC makes these ONLY for NBA sets, then I won't mind too much, but I really love the yellow minifig. If they (...) (22 years ago, 30-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)

Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...

I'm sorry, but they look atrocious. To be fair, I would like to see a complete shot, but as it stands based on those small pics the only thing I can say is that they look like Megabloks. I am not bothered by the different colored head bricks, just (...) (22 years ago, 30-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)

Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...

(...) You got that right! (...) Recent MegaBlock figs are not *that* bad... ;-) (...) Maybe to create a race of monsters, like trolls or kobolds, to put in your castle-themed dioramas, but other than that, I agree, they are very ugly... Terry (22 years ago, 30-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)

Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...

(...) In good loyal Legoness I can't say...although one in NALUG may differ his opinion on them. (...) hmmmm.....those NBA heads, on whatever 'monster' bodies you like, combined with just about any creator/Jack Stone fig could make for some truly (...) (22 years ago, 30-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)

Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...

(...) Agreed. Couldn't have said it better myself... For me it's in those rows of soldiers from the pirate theme all with smiling faces... Jesus Loves You, Nathan (22 years ago, 30-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)

Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...

Ahui & All, (...) Well, it still doesn't make any sense though. The actors are just as real as NBA players, and they also have various skin colors, as I can meet mark Hamilton or Harrison Ford. I think they are on thin ice here, I wish they would (...) (22 years ago, 30-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)

Aliens! (was: Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...)

(...) Wow! Aliens (by the species name of 'Humans') are coming to Legoland. As long as they don't take over that is a good thing in my opinion. (Yeah like Humans could defeat the Minifigs of the Lego Sapce Fleet, Ha! :-D ) -Mike Petrucelli (22 years ago, 31-Oct-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.space)

Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...

(...) Agreed, but don't forget the smiling castle armies! <yellow> : ) </yellow> Rick. (22 years ago, 31-Oct-02, to lugnet.general)

In lugnet.general, Mike Petrucelli writes: SNIP (...) DUH! Humans aren't even warp capable! And their primitive projectile weapons hhphphphp! Don't get me started. Jeff (22 years ago, 1-Nov-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.space)

Re: LEGO NBA Draft has started...

(...) Speaking of which, how can you have an NBA collection of any sort without Jordan? I'd love to see a 'classic' line with Rodman, David Robinson, Larry Bird, Magic J, etc. (...) I wholeheartedly agree :) especially since LEGO hairpieces are (...) (22 years ago, 2-Nov-02, to lugnet.general, lugnet.build.minifigs, lugnet.starwars)
