Hi! SchoolNet Namibia (www.schoolnet.na) is actively involved in rolling out Information and Communication Technologies to disadvantaged schools on a national basis, offering various low cost solutions to allow youth empowerment through internet. At (...) (23 years ago, 1-Aug-01, to lugnet.general) !!

  Re: Lego for Africa

I agree with Tim. I think Lego fans might be good people to ask for old computers, and computer geeks who are not Lego fans might be good people to ask for old Lego. I have an old computer I could donate. Where do I donate it? /Eric McC/ (23 years ago, 1-Aug-01, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Lego for Africa

(...) I totally agree, and Tim is right. We are mostly the kind of people to clutch onto lego for dear life... and I feel almost ashamed saying that but I know I would not want to donate my lego, even though I totally agree with the cause. And (...) (23 years ago, 1-Aug-01, to lugnet.general)

(...) G'day from Australia... I reckon if everyone pulled their heads in and went through their collection... found a few pieces they don't really need or want and never use anyway, or even just grabbed some they could live without... even if it (...)   Re: Lego for Africa

Alright I know I am in danger of being stoned for herresy but this actually might be a great opportunity for us to donate off-brand stuff. Think about it, how many of us have that ugly tub of off-brand bricks and accessories that we got mixed in an (...) (23 years ago, 1-Aug-01, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Lego for Africa

(...) I can probably come up with about 100 parts -- some yellowed, some a little scratched, some clone bricks, but all usable. Stuff I never use, and which I hope my five-year old will never miss... (...) Oh, also... if anyone from the Australian region wanted to join in this... you are welcome to send your items in a sealed bag to my PO Box, and I or someone else? could mail them out in one shipment! LMK! Thanks... Mel (23 years ago, 1-Aug-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.loc.au)

"Scott Costello" <scottcos@spamfree.yahoo.com> wrote in message news:GHEq1M.4M8@lugnet.com... (...) Oh, that's really nice. They cant afford Lego, so we give them the cheap imitation we wouldn't have ourselves. So they all grow up thinking "whats (...) (23 years ago, 1-Aug-01, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Lego for Africa

(...) Thy Challenge shall be met! By me, at least. :) I have lots of regular bricks that are in pretty good condition that I'm too lazy to clean, so I'm willing to donate that. I also have lots of doors I don't need... :D I'll wait a while and see (...) (23 years ago, 1-Aug-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.loc.au)

  Re: Lego for Africa

Can we just give you new Lego? Among adults who keep Lego, it's not uncommon for a bucket to fill up with new, common Lego elements that are left over. On the other hand, adults can be fond of really old parts... Anyway, this is a great idea. (But (...) (23 years ago, 1-Aug-01, to lugnet.general)

  A belated response from Namibia

Greetings LugNetters! Thank you for your richly varied responses and encouragement! I should have an address in the US (Washington DC) and even one in Australia (!) within 24 hours. I would be grateful if my original correspondence could be (...) (23 years ago, 2-Aug-01, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Lego for Africa

Its true we all horde LEGO but I'm sure its equally true we all have bricks we never use. . If we all make a concious effort we can find a hundred or so bricks too send. Its worth everyone hooking out some 2x4s they really have too many of and (...) (23 years ago, 2-Aug-01, to lugnet.general, lugnet.loc.au)

  Re: Lego for Africa

(...) Excellent! You've just helped me decide whether or not I should integrate my pre-dark-ages bricks (the ones I haven't already sold, anyway) with my shiny new ones - I'll weed out all the broken ones & put the rest in the mail (after a good (...)   Re: Lego for Africa

(...) Wouldn't the cost of mailing used bricks to the other side of the world, make the whole idea a bit costly. Surely Lego is a heavier packing material than bubble-wrap and not ideal for this purpose anyway. People would be better off donating (...)
