Re: The problem I have with upcoming product hoaxes

(...) The train hoax was clearly a hoax? I don't think I agree with that, I never posted to that thread, but I followed it very closely. There was quite a bit of heated discussion about the matter. When it was revealed as a hoax, I know not everyone (...) (24 years ago, 15-Jun-00, to lugnet.general)

Re: The problem I have with upcoming product hoaxes

(...) The train hoax was well perpetrated (Excellent work Ben!). I also followed the thread closely, and as far as I know no-one who was tricked went on to ask "hey, what's this April Fools Day thing you're all talking about?" 95% of posters to (...) (24 years ago, 15-Jun-00, to lugnet.general)

Re: The problem I have with upcoming product hoaxes

(...) Including making amusing jokes. To turn the coin the other way: how might it make someone feel when he goes to all the trouble of making a really funny spoof picture, and then a bunch of people jump on him calling him a deceptive liar? (24 years ago, 15-Jun-00, to lugnet.general)

Re: The problem I have with upcoming product hoaxes

(...) Hear, hear! There’s so much anticipation surrounding possible future products that people can be forgiven for getting miffed when they’ve had the ABS pulled over their eyes, but there’s such a thing as taking suspicion too far. When the first (...) (24 years ago, 15-Jun-00, to lugnet.general)

Re: The problem I have with upcoming product hoaxes

(...) I look at the possitive side of these hoaxes. As a collective group they make us think!!!! We get to play detective. And there is almost always someone who says "Ah ha! This can't be real because......" For those who are well versed on LEGO (...) (24 years ago, 15-Jun-00, to lugnet.general)

Re: The problem I have with upcoming product hoaxes

I've decided I might as well throw in my .02: I have loved every hoax that has shown up on LUGNET so far. I don't think I'm alone in admiring how close people can get to actual product designs or catalog layouts, etc. I've even taken a shot at it (...) (24 years ago, 15-Jun-00, to lugnet.general)

Re: The problem I have with upcoming product hoaxes

(...) <grin> (...) Hehe... I'll keep that in mind when you put up pics of the new 2001 sets ;-) I agree with what has been said here, that the hoaxes are all in fun, and even give us something to talk about. Still, there were a few people who (...) (24 years ago, 16-Jun-00, to lugnet.general)

(...) I know, I didn't expect to fool anyone, especially since I had posted other pics of the model to LUGNET earlier...but people still asked if I had them for sale... --Bram Bram Lambrecht.........Br...L@JUNO.com (URL) (24 years ago, 16-Jun-00, to lugnet.general)

(...) Sorry for any confusion Ravi -- by Australasia I only meant Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. So roughly 10% of the world's population would have the same cultural background as 95% of Lugnetters, and there's still a fair range in (...) (24 years ago, 18-Jun-00, to lugnet.general)

(...) That's cool, and it's also cool that it demonstrates my point. Communication, especially humour, can easily be misunderstood in a forum where people come from different backgrounds and read in different ways. --Dave (24 years ago, 18-Jun-00, to lugnet.general)

Re: BURPS (was Re: The problem I have with upcoming product hoaxes)

Having watched this debate with some interest, I have a thought. How's this for good hoax etiquette? If you do post something as a hoax (AT-AT not withstanding) you must afterwards post the directions for making your phony lego product. Then all (...) (24 years ago, 24-Jun-00, to lugnet.general)
