I recently discovered two sets in my grandmother's attic. Basic construction sets 125 and 145, obviously from the early 70's. They are 222 pcs and 413 pcs respectively. The only thing I have found is a 1973 UK catalog that shows some similar sets, (...) (24 years ago, 3-Mar-00, to lugnet.general)

OK, I have Basic Set 125. It is exactly that..... a basic set. There are no specialty pieces (besides some older bricks, windows & doors). If memory serves me correctly, this is a set that has the 4 brick high doors that were used in conjunction (...) (24 years ago, 3-Mar-00, to lugnet.general)

(...) IIRC, basic set 125 was what I received for my 11th birthday in 1975 and was my first LEGO set. I stored the pieces in the box up until I stupidly decided, shortly after discovering RTL in 1995 but before learning that boxes are important, (...) (24 years ago, 3-Mar-00, to lugnet.general)

(...) No it was the 1x3x4 door. They started making that one around '73 or '74. The classic 1x2x3 door (made since '57) was still produced in a few sets in '75 (#148, #400), but was totally discontinued by '77, when the regular minifigs came onto (...) (24 years ago, 6-Mar-00, to lugnet.general)

(...) Hmm. That answers my question of which one came with set 125, but leaves me with a puzzle: where did my 1x2x3's come from, then? The only sets I got as a child in the 70's were 125, 410, and 420. All of the rest of my collection has been (...) (24 years ago, 7-Mar-00, to lugnet.general)

(...) It's possible that #125 had both door types, but I highly doubt it. I'll check my 125 box tonight and see. If it did have both, it would show them being used on the box. Yes 148 (Red train station) had both sizes in white. Set #400 (...) (24 years ago, 8-Mar-00, to lugnet.general)

(...) Samsonite bricks were Celulos (sp?) Acetate, while the current ones are from ABS (stands for Abrasive Brick Substance ;-) (j/k). Dunno when the switch was made, though. -Shiri (24 years ago, 13-Mar-00, to lugnet.general)

(...) OK, a couple of things..... 1) The 2x4 bricks were the mainstain of LEGO in the 50's and 60's. And the predominant colors were red and white. Back in those years buildings were mostly 2 studs thick. No "1x" buildings back then. The 1x1, 1x2, (...) (24 years ago, 14-Mar-00, to lugnet.general)
