Actually, in the US it's a Federal law that they have to put the number of
pieces contained on the outside of the box. It was part of a "truth-in-
packaging" set of laws passed in the late 1960's.

Really?!?

I just ordered two 6441 sets.  I was a bit puzzled to see that the piece
count, which the LUGNET database lists as 433, was *not* on the outside of
the box as I'm used to seeing.  Both boxes were the same -- no piece count.
So, TLG broke the law?

Possibly the fact that you got them from S@H makes a difference.  Since it's
not a traditional retail store, it may not be bound by the same laws.  Or no
one is enforcing a good law in a silly circumstance.

Or perhaps the wording of the law provides a loophole for things like S@H
overflow.  What comes immediately to mind is that European overflow was never
"intended for sale in the US" which might let it slip by...

James

I would say that this is probably the case; if TLG can provide documentation
that the piece count in the non-North American localized version is the same
as that in the North American version, they would be allowed to sell the non-
North American localized version as the North American one.

(...) <snip> (...) There is something very related. Look at that pictures. (URL) box is plain European one (note German, Dutch and pan-european languages) and there are stickers affixed on them mentioning the piece count and classic age (...) (25 years ago, 8-Feb-00, to lugnet.general)
