Out of curiosity, am I one of the few who buy the sets for the sets. I don't
typically build to many MOCs, and if I do it is from an old carrying case full
of misc. pieces. Also, I store all my sets in their original boxes with
instructions.  Am I in the minority here?

I guess I'm just a crazy, mixed up AFOL.

I buy sets because they are cool as sets. But then I take them apart,
and add them to the pile. Boxes and instructions are saved.

Now I know I have all the pieces to reconstruct every set I've bought,
which is important to me, but I'll never build them all again.

I'm more of a completist in wanting to have an example of all the pieces
that I think are cool, rather than having all sets in a theme. I find
the smaller sets very boring, usually.

But I still think of LEGO as a resource, or medium, rather than as a
collection of models. When I started collecting back in the sixties, TLG
hadn't even invented Legoland, so all you could get were bricks. My
underlying philosophy, carried forward from then, is 'build, enjoy, and
admire good stuff.'

The best thing about sets is seeing new and ingenious uses for old
parts. I lament the introduction of ever more specialised pieces, even
though some of them are jolly useful :-)

Oops! Rambling again.
