Re: Two new Technic sets - Mini review

(...) I assume that the headlight parts on the 8880 are screened because they are 2x4 "top" slopes, and hence has a rugged surface, unsuitable for putting decals on. The same goes for the 8422, or rather, they are screened because the headlights (...) (26 years ago, 28-Dec-98, to lugnet.general)

Re: 20% off clearance at Zany Brainy 12/26-12/31

I'm working on it. I need to trade for/buy extra wheels (and other parts from the set, like the red and black macaroni bricks), and I'll start off with a flatbed trailer, and then start gathering red and black 1x bricks to enclose the trailer. THAT (...) (26 years ago, 28-Dec-98, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Lego(r) Master Maniac designation?

(...) The more I think about this, the more appropriate it seems. At this entry level, the objective is primarily to encourage activity, not to reward achievement, so why not let it be merit badgy?   Re: LEGO Quality Observation

(...) That is sad. I have always considered the instructions that come with sets to have a dual purpose: 1. Build the set. (duh) 2. Subconsciously teach quality construction methods. The example you give sure screws up purpose #2. -- Terry K -- (26 years ago, 28-Dec-98, to lugnet.general)

I dug up the NMRA reference: (URL) describes the Achievement Program, as well as the Master Model Railroader designation. Interesting reading. (...) (26 years ago, 28-Dec-98, to lugnet.general)

  Re: Lego(r) Master Maniac designation?

(...) No, I don't. I agree with you that it should not be merit badge-ish. I tried to address this by a) offering alternatives: N pages OR CLSotW. You can win CLSotW with just one page if it's cool enough. (consider the CNC machine. That site was (...) (26 years ago, 27-Dec-98, to lugnet.general)

  LEGO Quality Observation

Odd thing I noticed while building #6093, Flying Ninja Fortress [1]. At one point, the instructions have you build a corner which is 3x3, and three bricks high.
