I must admit, I always envisioned this as a miniature-style wargame more
than an abstract card-type game. Hence my ideas for being able to capture
other bases - allowing you access to more parts and allowing you to build
units faster (if you go for the ruling that a base can only produce one unit
at a time, although you can recycle).
Making it a miniature based game will allow people to build units other
than mechs - wheeled / tracked vehicles, static gun turrets for defense etc.
You can also introduce different terrain types (artificial ground (Roads
etc.) open ground (Grasslands), rough ground (Swamp, Scrub). Mechs would
probably be able to move over all of these with no change in speed, but
different propulsion units would have different penalties. Wheeled vehicles
could be incredibly fast, but only when on artificial ground.

I prefer the idea of just being able to use anything to game on - just a
table at a convention with some objects for blocking terrain. But I agree
you will need boards if you wish to use hidden mines etc.

A nice idea, but it may slow the game down. I've never tried a Turn-based
Resource gathering strategy game. I imagine it could be slow as you'd have
to allocated resources to building harvester units and units to protect said
harvester units.

| The rules as written definetly make a portable game. Many rule books just include sections with the optional rules. This keeps the game easy to play as beginners but also gives the advanced gamers something to sink their teeth into once the basic (...) (22 years ago, 26-Nov-02, to lugnet.space, lugnet.gaming)

This spawned discussion about creating a game to be played with such a (...) (22 years ago, 26-Nov-02, to lugnet.space, lugnet.gaming)
