According to Joe Meno’s post, last year’s BrickFest brought in $13000 in profit for himself, as well as $3000 for Christina Hitchcock for use of the BrickFest name.

Can the organizers of BrickFest PDX 2007 tell us who (if anyone) will be profiting from this year’s event?

Here we go again. Well to say that Joe brought in a profit of $13,000 is not exactly correct as his total expenses, if I remember, were not delineated in his accounting . His labor and personal expenses, mileage, trip costs, etc were not factored in.

So a more accurate statement would be that Joe earned $13,000. As far as BrickFest goes, I think all financial statements of the organizing committee are the property of the organizing committee and should remain private to them. We really have no business getting into their business.

And that of course goes for BrickWorld and any other event.

The word “profit” was Joe’s:

The total profit that went to BrickJournal Media LLC was about $13,000. This is in addition to the $3,000 that went to AMH Productions for use of the BrickFest name, as determined by an agreement that was signed in December 2005. It should be noted that this profit came from public day reciepts.

I have no idea how much he actually cleared from BF ‘06. I think the main question was whether anyone profited at all from the event (and I thank Joe for providing that information).

I think potential attendees and the AFOL community at large have an interest in knowing whether or not BF PDX is a for-profit event or not. Several people stated in the discussion on BF ‘06 that the for-profit/non-profit status of BrickFest would affect their decision on whether to volunteer or attend future events.

Don’t most events (not just LEGO events) make it clear to attendees whether they are non-profit or for-profit? Why would the BF organizers want to hide that knowledge from the AFOL community?

(...) Then why did you say "last year's BrickFest brought in $13000 in profit for himself" (my emphasis) rather than "... for BrickJournal Media LLC"? (...) So again, why did you say "last year's BrickFest brought in $13000 in profit for himself"? (...) (17 years ago, 15-Mar-07, to lugnet.events.brickfest, FTX)
