Hi Teunis,

I'm sure others here have their own opinions about the Megacorporation that is
Disney, but if you're a fan of Disney movies (and especially if you have kids)
then you probably should go to Disneyland. I'm fairly sure it's the #1 tourist
destination in Southern California. If you're staying in Anaheim, a trip to
Universal Studios will take a whole day (it's in Hollywood, about 40 miles
north). A trip to LLCA is another whole day (it's in Carlsbad, about 60 miles
south). I think the travel agency put you in Anaheim because they assumed you'd
use Disneyland as a base of operations.

As far as the park goes, it's a "typical" theme park with rides, shows,
restaurants, etc. It's very American, in all senses of the word. The park has
areas themed on the Disney movies and cartoons, so there aren't any mega sized
roller coasters or anything.. If you don't have kids and you're looking for more
scary thrill rides, then maybe Disneyland isn't for you. Actually the one big
coaster they have is closed because of a recent fatal accident. :(

BTW just so I don't confuse you, Disneyland, Disney's California Adventure, and
Downtown Disney are all basically in the same place - you don't have to do any
major travelling to go from one to the other. You just walk between them. You do
have to pay to get into Disneyland separately from DCA (since you're not from
California - we get in both parks for the price of one).

Some things to think about: It's expensive. It will be crowded. It's large - I'm
not sure about the exact number of acres, but it seems MUCH larger than
Legoland. Some tourists spend a whole day in each park. DCA is newer and smaller
than Disneyland, and as you've probably guessed, has a "California" theme. DCA
is not as popular as Disneyland, but if you can get some kind of package ticket
for both parks it's OK. I wouldn't pay extra just to go to DCA.

As I said earlier, if all you want to do is go to Downtown Disney and shop, that
is free. In fact I might even go there after I finish this post! Sometimes the
Lego store has discount coupons to get into LLCA, so you might want to go there
before you go down to Carlsbad.
