Re: When Did Tiles Get Their Groove?

(...) I have heard reliable reports of recently opened MISB sets from 1973 and 1976 without and with grooves, respectively. I think that narrows down the time frame for the addition of the groove (to nongrille tiles). It would be good to narrow it (...) (22 years ago, 9-Aug-02, to lugnet.cad.dev, lugnet.db.brictionary)

  Re: Part 21

Thomas, There's a hint on the last page of the instructions you linked to. It shows another vechile: (URL) that the part you are looking for? I have that piece; the base is almost square, although the piece is hollow. The curved one in your original (...) (22 years ago, 2-Aug-02, to lugnet.db.brictionary)

  Part 21

Does anyone know where part 21: Windscreen 2 x 4 x 1 & 2/3 (URL) I thought it was the windscreen in set 480 (URL) that winscreen is clearly rounded outward far enough that it would not fit in the footprint of a 2x4 brick, while part 21 looks like it (...)   Re: Treads

(...) Ah, ambiguous "which". I was asking to know which of the two treads to put in my inventory of 8539---I guessed x203, because the size looked close (about 4--5 studs on the semimajor when loosely draped), and it is in a smaller Makuta set. (...) (22 years ago, 14-Jul-02, to lugnet.db.brictionary)

  Re: Treads

(...) There appears to be an error in the Peeron database for 8539; it comes with 4 of the 680c01 treads which are common to Technic sets. The x203 is the new tread which showed up on the Arctic and Dino Island sets. -Rob. (...) (22 years ago, 13-Jul-02, to lugnet.db.brictionary)

  Treads

What are the dimensions of the two treads, Technic Tread (URL) Tread Small (URL) Or, more specifically to my problem, which comes in <set:8539 Manas>? Thanks, -- TWS Garrison (URL) capital letters in address for direct reply. (22 years ago, 13-Jul-02, to lugnet.db.brictionary)

  Re: Thoughts on Parts Taxonomy

(...) doh, you're right. Everyone, please don't complain to Steve about the names in Partsref, just complain to Steve about the names in LDraw :P <G,D&R> (22 years ago, 14-May-02, to lugnet.db.brictionary)

  Re: Thoughts on Parts Taxonomy

(...) I'd be happy to be a part of the development of such a system, but I don't have the time to do it on my own or be in charge of a group effort. So if someone volunteers to head up such a project, be sure to post it here. (22 years ago, 13-May-02, to lugnet.db.brictionary)

(URL) would what you're saying allow more obvious names like "worm gear" - as I think of it, because that's what it logically interacts with and looks like to me, at least - help me to find that name for a part often used in gear-reduction (...) (22 years ago, 12-May-02, to lugnet.db.brictionary)

  Re: Thoughts on Parts Taxonomy

I'm not going to quote it because I agree with it in total. I'd like to add some related thoughts that have been nagging at me ever since I first encountered Brick{Bay,Link} and LDraw... The thing that bugs me most is the names given to the parts. (...) (22 years ago, 11-May-02, to lugnet.db.brictionary)

  Re: Thoughts on Parts Taxonomy

I like the idea of better indexing, and would be happy to incorporate any new method into peeron - now someone just has to write it :) I know that indexing by a non-unique field (which is the part number) is a bad thing - it's just the easiest and (...)   Thoughts on Parts Taxonomy

Currently, there are three active major part databases out there: Partsref, Peeron Inventories, and the BrickLink Catalog. All have their advantages: Partsref has keywords, cross-referencing to other databases, and usually excellent pictures[1]. (...) (22 years ago, 10-May-02, to lugnet.db.brictionary)

Re: Going nuts trying to identify a part! (redux)

(...) Actually, I don't even recognize the parts. My knowledge of 2001--2002 parts is minimal---I think I have fewer than a dozen open sets from those years. ---...--- TWS Garrison tgarriso@math.purdue.edu (URL) (22 years ago, 6-Apr-02, to lugnet.db.brictionary)

Re: Going nuts trying to identify a part! (redux)

(...) You do recognize the part itself, yes? I know the numbers aren't canon yet--but the geometry of the piece (4x4 base to 2x4 top, last brick height toes in at 45-deg, with 2x2 hollow studs and two one- finger click hinge bits) I hope is clear. I (...) (22 years ago, 5-Apr-02, to lugnet.db.brictionary)
