Hop-Frog, or see above. Does no one read Poe any longer?

Building, Baby, building!!!

   3. What do you like about Castles?

I think I just like the pageantry of it all.

   4. What do you not like about Castles?

I think I have to go with Ellerman on this one. Class structure is a necessity when it comes to the kinds of structures we are talking about. There’s a romantic approach to the subject that leaves off the probably very tragic reality of the situation. During playtime, I just ignore the ugly facts of the reality -- everybody is happy to do what they do.

   5. If you could design/make a Castle set that LEGO hasn’t produced, what would it be/entail?

At this stage of things I think I’d like to see anything at all really. It’s great that we have the castle reissues, but for European castles the #6098 is an abomination (even though I will be forever grateful for the black maiden hat). While they are better than nothing at all, HP and the Orient Expedition stuff aren’t really what I think of for castles.

I’d like to see the many things Ellerman touched on. In particular, I’d like to see minifig sets and “army” sets. What I mean is that one should be able to buy a score of army figures at a time. Want 100 black falcons? Here’s five boxes. Want a King Leo Army? Here’s five boxes. Etc. I bet some of us might like to recreate certain battles in miniature, but absent the many needed minis we’re sort of SOL. I am probably over 85% castle complete (counting from the early 80s), and I even have multiples of certain sets -- but without a concerted effort to just collect minis without regard to price I don’t think I can pull off Arthur v. Mordred any time soon.

Also, I am really sick of the “hide and seek” TLC plays with some of the most desirable mini elements. Do you know what I don’t see in the current castle accessory pack? I don’t see light grey swords, and most importantly I am not seeing the light grey “Minifig Accessory Armor Plate”
.
What genius devised the accessory pack? Remember set #6009?

I’ll take 100-200 please. Drop the horse and make a nice colorful selection of horses an option as a separate accessory pack if I want a cavalry. The Gryffindor Knight Statue regularly sells for $10-18 USD on Bricklink because it only came in one set, Hogwarts Castle -- and let’s not pretend that anyone has 100 available. Yeah, like I’m going to buy 100 Hogwarts Castle sets to amass a 100 member army at a cost of $9,000 USD. Or perhaps I’d prefer to make a down payment on a house. What to do, what to do...

And remember the chrome silver armor? Do you recall how you had to buy four crazy sets to make just one chrome knight? Take note on how they are now very slowly releasing the new golden knight elements: the golden sword in one set, the golden shield in another, the golden dragon helmet in a third, and the golden breastplate TBA! Argh! At full MSRP you would have already spent at least $170 USD and the breastplate has yet to be released. Now I’ll grant that a golden knight is a unique figure and maybe no one really needs an army of them -- but come on!!!

I repeat: Remember set #6009? Pretty much the same fellow as in the Hogwarts Castle except that you even got a host of weapons and a horse and saddle besides. The lugnet database claims this set had a MSRP of $3.25 in 1992. I think I have 10-20 of them myself. MB recently released a “Dragons” chess set that comes in a metal tin -- you can construct the board, a small castle-like structure besides, the whole overseen by an enormous golden dragon, and the 28 figures (the “castles” and “queens” are architectural pieces) on the chess set include many weapons, 2 wizards, and 4 horses. At $50 USD MSRP, thats only $1.80 USD a mini and no “hide and seek”! At deep discount this set sold for $12 USD which made my price $0.42 a mini. MB also sells minifigure tins of 3 minis per tin for around $3 USD. Anyway, I don’t see that TLC has any excuses in this category -- it’s just stupidity.

Also, we must somehow gain greater access to basic slopes without having to mortgage our souls to obtain them. Light grey steep corner slopes, for example. On Bricklink they go for $8 USD EACH when TLC should just be making these architectural basics available all of the time. Slopes are a biggie because they can serve for details on walls as well as serving as the fundamental element in the making of roofs. We need many of the different slope types, in the available angles, in most of the basic colors (i.e. black, grey, blue, red, etc). No new molds need be made -- what’s the hold up?

   6. Where do you see Castle going as a group in the future?

Most of the truly interesting things have not happened as a group, although The Gathering must have been fun for those in attendence.

If anything, we should maybe try for a contest as we have done in other groups. I’ve been mulling that one for some time...

Hi Richard, (...) Ages ago I suggested that TLC will create an equivalent set for Castle as they made for City 9293 (URL) to include like 30 minifig of castles from all times. So far they havn't listen. (...) Also that set is missing "Minifig Helmet (...) (21 years ago, 10-Aug-03, to lugnet.castle, FTX)
