What's the general consensus on the Lion head Block? Like or No Like?
Personally, I don't like it. It's too pre-fab! It just doesn't look Lego. It
looks too much like it belongs to some other toy company. I prefer a rendering
of a lion made out of regular bricks and plates that is rough around the edges.
Kinda like the gargoyle head looking things on the 6090 Royal Knight's Castle.
In my opinion, they're taking away the mystique and imagination quotient that
makes Lego so addictive to those of us who have been using them for twenty or
more years. It's the same way that computer graphics have taken the "how'd
they do that?" out of movies. I, for one, am disappointed. The 2000 sets have a
lot of cool stuff, don't get me wrong, I just don't like this particular part.
Am I alone on this one or what?

hey, bill ~

i saw my first y2k sets yesterday, including a couple with this lion-head
element. i thought it was cool-looking, but would look MUCH better on a body
as mini-fig lion! as a decorative element, it is really out of place in a
lego construction.  i would be much more impressed if there were lion-headed
walls constructed from pieces...(but then, again, who wouldn't!)

these sets have some interesting pieces too add to an existing collection,
but not much to really build with in and of themselves. (~ kind of like big
accessory packs!) one of these sets had four of these lion head things, with
barely a brick in sight!

part of the mystique of the older sets was admiring the way it was built,
and having pieces that gave you the option of endless variation.  not so
much so with these new castle sets. unimpressive constructions with limited
options. i saw the jousting event and treasury sets, btw...

i also saw the slave-1 set which had me much more excited. it looked good
as a set, and has lots of great pieces, with which i can build anything from
dinosaurs to cadillacs. ~ definitely a trace of the old lego mystique in the
star wars series. i only hope* it will be finding it's way back into the
other system themes...
