Leonard ---

This is going to be rather long winded -- think of it as a shotgun reply to
most of what you've been saying and of your work so far.

I like your site; I believe I've said it before - a few months back when you
began posting about your creations - but don't recall. I like how you've
done each location. With so much emphasis on bigger is better, it's
refreshing to see (how I view them) somewhat smaller, but more focused
creations.

I don't post much anymore because I don't have a lot to contribute (and I
typically read/browse LUGNET from work between projects). Back when I was
actively working on my own story, I was a more frequent poster here. That
was like 6-8 months ago now. I've become more of a lurker than anything, so
don't take that to mean that I (or others) don't like your creations. I do
understand the frustration of having none or very few posts about your
creations. I've been through it, myself. I think at some point most here
have. Not everyone, mind you, but I'm sure most have.

The odd thing is -- with some of my creations, 6-8 months out, I've gotten
more responses from new arrivals than from the 'old guard' that had been
around when I did the initial post. Not just in Castle, but other areas I
wade into, as well.

Grand-scale creations ARE keen.. but it's often hard to photograph
everything and get a feel for .all. the action going on. It's hard to
capture the subtle touches put into a creation without shooting a zillion
pictures..then you lose people to the "drowning factor"(1) and its no better
than if you had omitted the nifty bits to start with.. =/

As for special effects and graphics? Follow your heart here. If you think
it'll make your story better for .you.? Do it. I chose to add some flavor of
backgrounds to my own story, for one reason: I made the mistake of using
grey base plates as my backdrop. Nothing looks worse than a forest scene set
against row upon row of plain grey studs. ;) It was a pain because I don't
play with Photoshop enough to be very proficient with it, but .I. was happy
with the outcome. It just happened that others seemed to like it too which
was icing on the cake.

Over all -- be true to you. If that means people fall over themselves to
reply to your creations, that's great. If that means that you're happy with
your results and the masses are disappointingly silent... well... it's their
loss for not participating in your creations.

I say keep up the great work - you have your kingdom far FAR more thought
out than I have mine. :) You've given me some good nuggets to dwell on and
draw from and for that I thank you. :)

(1) Drowning Factor - adj. - a "Joelism". Based on observations of my
brickshelf account. Most people seem to look at 'all' the pictures in a
folder that has less than 10 images, whereas in a folder that pushes 30+
images they appear to pick and choose or look at the first 5 or 10 before
moving on.

after the long discussion we all just had about posting or highlighting.. id just like to add my two cents. i really like feedback for my work.. now i know i don't do as much by way of cpu effects, and my building isn't as grandiose as is usual.. (...) (23 years ago, 7-Nov-01, to lugnet.castle)
