  Re: New MPD: Harley-Davidson Hovercycle

(...) I made a render of this file to test out some POV ideas and thought I'd share it with everyone. (URL) (22 years ago, 15-Jan-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.models, lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: Excellent rendering with MegaPov 0.7 (long post)

I've downloaded Megapov and plugged in the extra code but all I get is a black image. For that matter, I get a black image for every file I run that has MegaPov enabled. Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated. -Orion (22 years ago, 14-Jan-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

  Re: Random coordinates?

(...) Ah! That may be just what I need. I'll look into it. Thanks! Dave! (22 years ago, 6-Jan-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

  Re: Random coordinates?

(...) There is a random number generator in the previous POV-Ray version, so I suppose there is one in the latest as well. I've used it several times, albeit mainly for animations. Fredrik (22 years ago, 6-Jan-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

  Random coordinates?

Hi All! Is there a way in POV-Ray 3.5 to create an object that appears within a range of coordinates but at random coordinates each time a scene is rendered? Thanks for any insights you care to provide. Dave! (22 years ago, 5-Jan-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

  More on MegaPov

Hi all, A few days after my post about MegaPov 0.7 a new version was released, compatible with POV-Ray 3.5. So to a certain point that post was a bit pointless. I have downloaded MegaPov 1.0 (MP1.0) for both Macintosh and Windows but only tested it (...) (22 years ago, 3-Jan-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Excellent rendering with MegaPov 1.0 !!!

Hi all, Forget my last post about MegaPov 0.7, yesterday MegaPov 1.0 was announced (see: (URL) )! And it is compatible with POV-Ray 3.5. Hopefully it is still as fast as version 0.7. Jeroen (22 years ago, 1-Jan-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: Excellent rendering with MegaPov 0.7 (long post)

(...) Well, you shouldn't actually replace the definitions but place them after line 16 (#declare BUMPNORMAL = normal { bumps 0.01 scale 20 } and before the line saying: # declare 07071 = sqrt(0.5);. Remove the lines #declare AMB = 0.4; and #declare (...) (22 years ago, 30-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: Excellent rendering with MegaPov 0.7 (long post)

(...) Thanks! (...) Well, I rendered a model by James Mathis (ICE train) with radiosity and camera-blur and Mega-Pov + POV-Ray 3.1 was SEVEN TIMES FASTER than POV-Ray 3.5! I also liked the overal picture rendered by MegaPov better, a bit softer if (...) (22 years ago, 30-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: Excellent rendering with MegaPov 0.7 (long post)

Hi Jeroen - This looks great! I plugged it into MegaPOV and replaced my color definitions in a POV file with your code. MegaPOV is having a hard time understanding your statements: #if (BUMPS) normal { BUMPNORMAL } #end Any tips? Thanks!! -Tim (...) (22 years ago, 30-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: Excellent rendering with MegaPov 0.7 (long post)

Hej Jeroen, a BIG thanks to you for this extensive and clear post about how to get 'excelent rendering results' (ERR...) with MegaPov 0.7 but(yes), me is one of those lazy guys... so, how about a comparison between Povray3.5 and MegaPov 0.7 in both (...)   Excellent rendering with MegaPov 0.7 (long post)

Hi all, Since the code for photorealistic pictures where released (see (URL) a lot of people have been experimenting with it. Allister McLaren for instance added light (see: (URL) which not only looks better but also removes some radiosity artifacts (...) (22 years ago, 29-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Re: Outlined part edges in L3P?

(...) If you're gonna do optional lines then it'll only look correct when viewed from one direction. This means you can apply the standard cheat to solve the problem with cutoff cylinders on concave edges. Push all the edge cylinders toward the (...)   Re: Outlined part edges in L3P?

(...) All line type 2 (and some type 5) should be visible. Why not? Edge lines along primitives are harder but not impossible. /Lars (22 years ago, 23-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.ray, lugnet.inst)

Re: Outlined part edges in L3P?

(...) L3P works on one file at the time (it doesn't walk the tree), and when it processes the model, the parts and submodels have been thrown away. Otherwise you are right. After posting I imagined I would let L3Lab (which walks the tree) generate (...) (22 years ago, 23-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.ray, lugnet.inst)

Re: Outlined part edges in L3P?

Re: Outlined part edges in L3P?

(...) First, I don't think that it is related to the "smooth triangle" algorithm, because this is independent of the scale of the triangles, it only deals with their surface normals. The basic problem is, that there is no such thing as a line in (...) (22 years ago, 23-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.ray, lugnet.inst)

Re: Outlined part edges in L3P?

Excellent suggestion!! I've been wrestling with MegaPOV lately, having frustration with different size submodels and the find_edges settings. I want to keep the line thickness relative to the _parts_ and not to the render resolution, but since the (...) (22 years ago, 22-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.ray, lugnet.inst)
