I'd rather see a new "Part Authoring" link on http://www.ldraw.org/reference/.

Ok.

I agree.

If we create a new subdirectory "/authoring", are you happy for Steve and I to
maintain the Part Authoring content in this directory as well as some material
in the  "/specs" directory (actually permissions look fine)? Or would you
prefer to review material prior to publishing?

You guys can go ahead and publish without my review there. Just please try
to keep the pages within the existing format and use the appropriate include
files.

Urgh.  It might be easier to reformat all the existing /reference/
content to use the /library/ ssi scheme... ;)

I think the "Parts Tracker" reference - i.e. "The Parts Tracker FAQ", "The
Parts Reviewing FAQ", "Review Posting Information", "L3P -check Messages" and
the PT development stuff should stay where it is in
http://www.ldraw.org/library/tracker/ref/

OK. To maintain continuity, do you think /reference/specs/tracker/ could
sym-link over to that location?

Definitely, there should be cross-linking both ways.

Everything else on this page probably belongs in either "Part Authoring" or
"Specifications".

I didn't see anything that seemed to belong under authoring -- lots of
stuff that's clearly specification, some stuff that's gray area between
specs and PT.  Maybe the File Types FAQ would go under authoring.

BTW, I'm not really keen on putting FAQ-formatted pages in specs.

I've got some ideas about organizing the specs for file formats and
linetypes and meta-statements, but I'll keep that out of this
discussion.

Steve

(...) I know I eventually wanted to reformat the whole site that way, but was going to do it piece at a time. So, feel free. (...) You can break down the /reference/faq/ page into categories... would that work? -Tim (22 years ago, 2-Dec-02, to lugnet.cad.dev.org.ldraw)
