Is there something special that needs to be done with the above zip file after extracting to get Bricksmith to recognize the parts in it?

That seems better than what I get. I had the loading parts window never go away, and when I exited and restarted Bricksmith, it just shows that window for a little bit and then crashes. This is what I see in the console log:

2009-01-01 17:52:49.744 Bricksmith[759] Exception raised during posting of
notification.  Ignored.  exception: *** -[NSCFString
getLineStart:end:contentsEnd:forRange:]: Range or index out of bounds

--Travis

This is caused by the files:

p/box3#8p.dat
parts/s/swh2.dat
parts/s/swh3.dat

...all of which are empty files in 2008-1. The next version of Bricksmith will not choke on such malformed files; in the meantime, don’t use those files from 2008-1. Throw away LDraw/Bricksmith Parts.plist to recover from your problem after fixing the empty files.

The official LDraw distribution needs to be updated to restore these files’ contents as well.

(...) Thanks for pointing this out. I don't understand how those files got to become zero-length, but these will be restored in the next parts update (which is under development at present). Chris Dee (LDraw Parts Library Admin) (16 years ago, 27-Apr-09, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.cad.dev.mac, FTX)
