A search for "HFS", "rock ridge", and "joliet" turns up several GUI tools for making hybrid CD filesystems such as the ones at www.cdeverywhere.com and www.cdr.com. (...) I was under the impression that the ISO-9660? filesystem was only 8.3 UPPERCASE or something like that. All the operating system vendors then added their own extensions to get long filenames with mixed case. Linux uses Rock Ridge. Microsoft (...) As you may know I have been cooking on this L3 program for more than two years now (not that this tells anything about its size and quality ;-) However, I believe L3 now has so many useful features that many of you (especially part authors) also (...) A few people have been entertaining the idea of creating an LDraw CD-ROM. I discussed it with Terry and Jacob, and then obtained the permission of the Jessiman family to go ahead with it. I added transparency. You can see how it comes out rendered on a RAGE II+ (my original G3/233 or anything newer.) I took some pictures of 3823.dat (2x4x2 windscreen). And I accidentally made a 30% translucent Car.. the one you were complaining the (...) (25 years ago, 7-Feb-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

(...) I didn't know how transparency is coded for in a DAT file so I didn't write any code to handle it--it would be simple enough to translate. A lot of polygons fail to reflect light because I was not sure about surface normals. My program just (...) (25 years ago, 7-Feb-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

I played with the QuickTime tools and my converter last night. The process goes like this: Process a DAT file with LTrans.pl (my program) to get a .3dmf file (8k) Use 3D Movie Maker on that to get a .mov file (8k) At this point you have a QuickTime (...) (...) The general public wouldn't know if it's a CD or CD-R. The only way to tell is (a) your obsolete CD drive can't read CD-R disks (b) you have a CD-R(W) drive or software which reports the type of the disc. Steve (25 years ago, 7-Feb-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

A new release of stl2dat is available here (URL) creates now correctly the type 2 lines. I removed the bug with "partial adjacent facets". (was a silly bug, triangles where merged too early) The part name, author name and angle limit can be given in (...) (25 years ago, 14-Feb-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

How about have a submission for the CD to include models (sample models). BTW I like the idea. It would keep that LDraw folder with all the junk down!
