"Needed" might be too strong.  It's a stylistic thing.
I feel that the convex orientation is easier to work with,
for two reasons:

a.  It's self-documenting.  In the convex orientation,
it's fairly easy to see that the object is a section of a sphere.
b.  Most of the time, part-authors will use it in a convex mode.
Even most interior corners will require a convex orientation.

It took me a while, but I finally realized why I'm so hesitant
to re-orient this file...  It's (part of) a sphere, and _all_
of the sphere (and disc/non-disc/edge) files are oriented
such that the "centerpoint" (i.e., focus) of the sphere/(etc.)
is the _origin_ point of the file/construct (i.e., "0,0,0").
In order to re-orient this new file,
I would have to change the centerpoint to "1,1,1",
and that's non-intuitive to my mathematical mind.  :-(

Also, it's _already_ convex, I believe (it bulges outward,
and that's "convex", IIRC, because the nmemonic [sp?]
is "caves go in", so "con_cave_" could be "bulging _in_ward"...
Have I got that right?...).

Here's the second image again:
(Remember that I rotated the whole thing 90 degrees about the Y-axis
just to make it easier for the image to be seen and understood.)

Thanks,
Franklin

(...) Huh? The way you've got the file now, the sphere's centerpoint is at <1,1,1>. (...) The current orientation of the file has the 'bulge' going toward the origin, not away from it. So I'd say it's bulging inward. (...) You've got that whole (...) (24 years ago, 18-Sep-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)

(...) Ooo, ick. I'll look into that. There's plenty of code in LDAO that does substitutions like tabs to blanks and CRs to CRLFs, but I don't remember doing anything with commas. And I usually pass code around in text buffers, not using the inherent (...) (24 years ago, 16-Sep-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)
