just by looking at that name...

By using "modern" and "archaic",
there would be *no* ambiguity:
an *archaic* pistol means the Pirate Pistol,
and nothing else.
A *modern* pistol (or revolver)
means the Wild West Revolver,
and nothing else [1].
I hope you can see where I'm going with this.
I want to be *just* precise enough
to avoid *any* reasonable confusion.

Just as a casual LDraw user, I appreciate the effort to disambiguate the names by including "Archaic" vs. "Modern," but then again it wouldn't be obvious to me what "Archaic" meant and what "Modern" meant. | My opinion would be: minifig pirate rifle minifig pirate pistol minifig ww rifle minifig ww pistol This keeps everything very simple. If Ldraw users don't know what they are...they probably don't need them in their drawing. as for this: (...) Look (...) (25 years ago, 20-Jul-00, to lugnet.cad.dev)
