Nope, CLIPPING is not redundant; using CLIPPING and WINDING is another way
of accomplishing what we've been discussing with the FACE meta-statement.

Also, clipping should not be performed on surfaces which are double-sided,
such as printed patterns.  Wrapping the decorations with CLIPPING OFF /
CLIPPING ON is one way of controlling this.
