Hi Stefan
I don't know anything about neither optional lines or the programs you're
converting from, but from a parts reviewers perspective, I'd say that the
teapot.ldr looks pretty good.

I wouldn't worry so much about automatic subpart generation. When you have the
raw polygons, it's easy to part the file up in subparts and erase the rest.
Primitives are another question: These would be nice to have created
automatically, but as that would be pretty difficult (and often demand
intelligent decisions), I think you should wait with that.

What I would worry about now is how the indiviual objects connect: Stuff from
the appendages to the pot is sticking into the body, and the lines there isn't
properly placed.
Now if you added a function (like ldrawCalc) so the lines was placed properly,
it would be much easier to shape the polygons manually. (since you'd have the
correct coordinates for the intersections).

Another thing is the general layout of the mpd.
Everything is jumbled together in one chunck, so if you could presort the file
somehow, and add 0-lines and different colours to part it up, it would be a lot
easier to rework it afterwards:
With the teapot, it would be logical to have each slice, handle and nose in
separate chunks with different colours, that would make it a lot easier to
subpart the file. And a pet peeve of mine: Move the edges up in the beginning of
the chuncks (it helps to define the shapes of the polygons).

That's all I can contribute with for now: I'm not sure I'll ever be using the
program, but I think it's really great you try to make it: With the
acccelerating numbers and complexity of new parts TLC is producing these days,
this kind of programs are absolutely neccesary to make the ldraw-family survive
in the long run.

PS: Can you show us a file including spheres and stuff (primitives), instead of
one with only polygons?

(I posted this to lugnet.cad toplevel, but considering the total lack of response, I decided to try it down here in .dev instead, where I got all that nice feedback for my last post.) After a couple of days of coding fun, I finally have the ASE to (...) (20 years ago, 18-Feb-05, to lugnet.cad.dev)
