Hey all, Here's my first semi-successful attempt at (quasi-) parts-authoring. I'm extremely new at this, and would appreciate any feedback I can get on the changes I made to this part. What I did: I modified the part #4349 (Town Loudhailer) to have a more "textured" body. Previously, the body was just a 4-4cyli with many 4-4edge's to represent the "ribbing" in the body. Unfortunately, this doesn't come across very well when run through L3P -- the body comes out smooth. I replaced the above-mentioned primitives with a series of 4-4cyli's and ring7's. It looks passable in L3Lab, and POV-Ray. What I didn't do: I didn't touch anything but the cylindrical body area. I especially didn't touch the conical section; I'm not sure where we stand with conic primitives. I didn't touch the joint between the handle and the body. I'm not sure what to do with this. By looking at the physical piece, it appears that the shaft kinda goes straight through the ribbing; I think I could just push that end of the handle's cylinder even closer to the centerline, adjusting the handle's length to take up the slack, and making sure it doesn't poke through the inner wall. Also, I now see that I didn't quite get the interior right; the hole should go deeper. Arg. I'll get this corrected tonight, after I can properly measure it.
