Still no zip file for 2008-01? —Allen Smith
LDraw Library Update 2008-01 is still posted only as a Windows executable. Why is there not yet an universally-accessible zip file of its contents? Allen (16 years ago, 23-Dec-08, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

Re: Still no zip file for 2008-01? —Michael Heidemann
(...) Why do you need that? Under Linux I have tested this executable and it works perfect (with wine). cu mikeheide (16 years ago, 25-Dec-08, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

Re: Still no zip file for 2008-01? —Jim DeVona
(...) That's goofy. The content of the library update is a group of LDraw files, not a program. Zip is a common and perfectly reasonable format for distributing such files; it is natively supported on most operating systems I'm aware of. Packing (...)           Re: Still no zip file for 2008-01? —Timothy Gould
(...) Actually with the new license anyone can repackage it as a regular zip. I suspect most zip programs could open the executable zip anyway. But I agree that ldraw.org should make it available in a universal format. I'd guess it just slipped (...) (16 years ago, 26-Dec-08, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

Re: Still no zip file for 2008-01? —Ross Crawford
(...) Note that most programs that can extract ZIP files should be able to extract the contents of the EXE file - self-extracting ZIPs are valid ZIP files themselves. ROSCO (16 years ago, 30-Dec-08, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

Re: Still no zip file for 2008-01? —Jim DeVona
(...) Yeah, I've done that in the past, but I didn't have any luck in this case. Stuffit Expander, the built-in OS X archive utility, and another zip program failed to unzip it successfully. The unzip utility reports the following: (...) (16 years ago, 30-Dec-08, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

Re: Still no zip file for 2008-01? —Chris Dee
(...) As announced (URL) here> the Windows distribution is no longer a self-extracting zip file, because we wanted to give new users a more friendly installation interface. As a side-benefit we were able to allow the optional installation of the (...) (16 years ago, 31-Dec-08, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

Re: Still no zip file for 2008-01? —Michael Heidemann
(...) Not really a helpful message! If you have a question - then ask that question. There are approx. 95% and more Windows users for LDraw and the remaining 5% or less are Linux and Apple users. So which direction you would go to satisfy the (...)           Re: Still no zip file for 2008-01? —Timothy Gould
(...) When satisfying both is trivial (like here) then you should satisfy both. Personally I would have preferred to dump the executable zip and just leave it as a regular zip. Tim (16 years ago, 31-Dec-08, to lugnet.cad, FTX)

Re: Still no zip file for 2008-01? —Jim DeVona
(...) Since some popular LDraw programs are available for the Mac these days - LDView, LPub, L3Lab, and of course Bricksmith - I think it's only reasonable to provide parts updates in a format readily accessible to Mac users. Happily, the (URL) (...) (16 years ago, 31-Dec-08, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.cad.dev.mac, FTX)

Re: Still no zip file for 2008-01? —Erik L. Knopp
(...) Is there something special that needs to be done with the above zip file after extracting to get Bricksmith to recognize the parts in it? No parts appeared in the parts selector when I had the preferences set to look at the ldraw folder (...) (16 years ago, 1-Jan-09, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.cad.dev.mac)

Re: Still no zip file for 2008-01? —Travis Cobbs
(...) That seems better than what I get. I had the loading parts window never go away, and when I exited and restarted Bricksmith, it just shows that window for a little bit and then crashes. This is what I see in the console log: 2009-01-01 (...) (16 years ago, 2-Jan-09, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.cad.dev.mac, FTX)

(...) snip (...) This is caused by the files: p/box3#8p.dat parts/s/swh2.dat parts/s/swh3.dat ...all of which are empty files in 2008-1. The next version of Bricksmith will not choke on such malformed files; in the meantime, don't use those files (...) (16 years ago, 7-Jan-09, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.cad.dev.mac, FTX)

Re: Still no zip file for 2008-01? —Chris Dee
(...) Thanks for pointing this out. I don't understand how those files got to become zero-length, but these will be restored in the next parts update (which is under development at present).         Re: Still no zip file for 2008-01? —Travis Cobbs
(...) Chris has now changed the zip to include ldraw as part of the paths inside, instead of being rooted inside the ldraw directory, so it now works again with LDView's automatic library install. --Travis (16 years ago, 26-Dec-08, to lugnet.cad, FTX)
