Problem loading LUGNET .dats into LEdit

I just tried loading some of the .dat models that I got off lugnet.cad.dat into LEdit without sucess. Some of the files in my \models folder load fine, but some don't. All files load into LDLite. What could be going on? -- Thomas Main (...) (26 years ago, 2-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Problem loading LUGNET .dats into LEdit

(...) What happens when you try to load them into LEdit? If they just don't display properly, it could be the files have meta-commands that LEdit doesn't recognize, such as 0 FILE, 0 ROTATE, or 0 TRANSLATE. If LEdit crashes, it could still be a (...) (26 years ago, 2-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Problem loading LUGNET .dats into LEdit

(...) Need more info. What steps (exactly) did you do? - Source of .dat models? web page? e-mail? NNTP newsreader? - Which newsreader/mailer application? - What did you click/type to save the file? - What directory did you put the saved model in? - (...) (26 years ago, 2-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Problem loading LUGNET .dats into LEdit

(...) The files aren't there at all. There's a start line and that's it - the rest is blank. LEdit doesn't crash and in fact keeps working well if I add parts, load a new model in, etc. -- Thomas Main main@appstate.edu (...) (26 years ago, 3-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Problem loading LUGNET .dats into LEdit

(...) OK, see below. The odd thing is, all these files load into LDLite - just not LEdit. (...) Webpage (...) Netscape 4.51 built-in mail reader. (...) I click on the save file button in the dialog that pops up. (...) the \models directory off the (...) (26 years ago, 3-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Problem loading LUGNET .dats into LEdit

(...) OK, nothing odd there. Next question -- which models in particular do work for you and which don't? (One example of each should be enough.) --Todd (26 years ago, 4-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Problem loading LUGNET .dats into LEdit

(...) Thomas, open up the offending file and check it for problems. Make sure there are no comment lines that don't begin with a '0'. Make sure all the part lines are entirely on one line each, and not wrapped to the next line. Sometimes that screws (...) (26 years ago, 4-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Problem loading LUGNET .dats into LEdit

An example of a model that works is: 0 Name: 18wheelr.dat 0 Author: Bram Lambrecht One that doesn't is Duane Hess' jeep.dat. I looked at both files and noticed some differences: jeep.dat had empty lines throughout the file - I removed those. (...) (26 years ago, 4-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Problem loading LUGNET .dats into LEdit

(...) Oh, ok...that's just the name of the first file in my \models directory...I must not have gotten it from lugnet.cad.dat (...) I just re-downloaded this .dat file and it loads/displays properly in LEdit. (...) I loaded the file in LDAO editor. (...) (26 years ago, 4-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Problem loading LUGNET .dats into LEdit

(...) Thomas, what is the exact URL of the 18wheelr.dat file you are accessing? The only one that I know of it the one Bram announced in December pointing to his tutorial site at advanced.org, right. And if that URL (URL) loaded up, it displays as a (...) (26 years ago, 4-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Problem loading LUGNET .dats into LEdit

(...) Hmm, well, that's good news and bad news then. Good news that it works, but bad news that it's going to be probably impossible to replicate. (...) Steve, is it possible that an older version of LDAO's editor could have become confused by the (...) (26 years ago, 5-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Problem loading LUGNET .dats into LEdit

(...) It's possible, but I think (no, strike that; let me check--it will only take a minute). Drat! I scan'n'replace for bare CR's, but not bare LF's. So, yes, LDAO would have a problem with .DAT files where the lines are broken by just LF's, (...) (26 years ago, 5-Apr-99, to lugnet.cad)
