I have a similar problem but I just carry on.
I've just restarted some Lego animation after a break of a couple of years and
these are the steps I took.
Downloaded off the web..
LDraw
Complete.zip
any unofficial part files I could find
MLCAD
LPub
L3P
LGEO
POVRAY
BMP2AVI
TMPGEnc
I then install all the lego stuff in a lego directory off the C root. Putting
each program in it's own directory. POVRAY goes in Program Files.
Run each program which may ask where other programs are.
I add he parts directory to the POVRAY pvengine.ini
Running LPub generates the cannot write message but just ignore it. Make sure
you have set "Do not delete POV files" then run POVRAY and load the generated
POV file. You may need to delete the text in the render options section in
POVRAY but it works for me.
I usually end up creating a starting point with MLCAD & LPub but once there I
start editting the POVRAY file as you have more control over model position.
It would be nice to have a feature that created inc files rather than POV files
that can then be added into a POVRAY scene. I do it by hand at the moment. Just
an idea.
I'm running XP on all the PC's I've tried and the basic installation works a
treat. Now if I can get a version for my PocketPC.......
Hope that helps.
