In lugnet.cad, Leonard Hoffman writes:
i get two lists - on one side is says "Brick" on the other "<Brick"
then on the bottom it says "name:" and "search:"  what should i enter
to weed out the mod bricks and plates?

Here are the rules I use to separate the bricks...

Brick
<Brick & !with & !Round & !Corner & !Log & !Shock & !Octagon & !Facet

Brick, round
<Brick & " Round"

Brick, modified
<Brick & !" Round"

Note that this leaves plain bricks duplicated in the "Brick, modified"
category. You could write a more complex rule to exclude them but I didn't
bother.

You'd write rules for plates the same way...

Plate
<Plate & !with & !Corner & !Offset & !Trap & !Octagon & !Round

Plate, round
<Plate & Round & !with & !Corner

Plate, modified
<Plate

Once again this leaves plain plates duplicated in the "plate, modified"
category.

Here are the rules I use for minifigs...

Minifig, head
Head & !Technic & !Torso & !Headlight & !Animal

Minifig, torso
<Minifig & Torso

Minifig, arms & legs
<Minifig & !Armor & !Polearm & !Nozzle & ( Arm | Leg | Hand | Hips )

Minifig, the rest
Minifig & !Head & !Torso & !"Minifig Arm" & !"Minifig Hand" & !"Minifig Hips" &
!"Minifig Leg"

and tiles...

Tile w/o pattern
<Tile & !Pattern & !Circle & !Spyrius
