Regarding the proposed file format document: (URL) is no mention of the scale used by the x/y/z triplets in the various linetypes. To shear a part, you basically decide which axes are effected, such as the part's Y value increases or decreases as the Z value increases, and then add a shearing factor to the matrix in the right (...) (...) When importing from 3DS files into Max, you need to weld vertices for the model after import. 3DS files contain lots of coincident vertices for historic reasons.
