m886.ldr PLUS I finally delurk  [DAT]

Hello all, Now seems to be a good time to delurk. I am a graduate student, and thus don't have the time or money to really get into building. My current LEGO time is spent by digitizing the instructions from my golden lego years before they're lost (...) (22 years ago, 22-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.models.sets)

Re: Modelise inner details or use more standard primitives ?

(...) There was this unofficial generic rule that details smaller than 1 LDU may be omitted. I don't know if it is still valid. Another good rule, always valid, is common sense... :o) /Tore (22 years ago, 22-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

Modelise inner details or use more standard primitives ?

I have a problem with the part Technic Pneumatic T Piece (URL) have two options - modelling a very accurate part, with inner details, but for this would produce a part with less standard primitives cylinder or sphere. - using as many as possible (...)   Re: Level B Simplification - LDraw Boxer

(...) If I make the simplified versions of grooved tiles more detailed by making them out of two boxes instead of one (which I intend to), there will be very visible gaps. /Tore (22 years ago, 22-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Has anyone authored the Chef hat?

I'd rather save myself the work if it has already been done. Peeron: (URL) Hafner www.hafhead.com (22 years ago, 22-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Level B Simplification - LDraw Boxer

(...) Looking through the /B directory I have a suggestion. Why not simplify further by using box4.dat instead of box.dat? -Orion (22 years ago, 21-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

  Re: LDraw in the Classroom?

Hi Tonya - Thanks for the reply! I'm interested in learning more about your programs. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to pay much attention right now. Later this year I will be exploring LDraw in the classroom in greater depth. I've gotten some (...) (22 years ago, 21-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad, lugnet.edu)

Re: Download parts automatically with your preferred modeller?

Hi Willy - (...) Yes, getting started can be difficult for some new users. We've tried to put up clear instructions, but some still struggle with that. There should be a solution - but there's other issues at play too. See below. (...) This is a (...)   Re: Converting AutoCAD/3D Studio/etc. to .dat with 3DWin

Hi Darrell - Sorry I haven't been of much help via email. This is good discussion, but since I'm not a programmer, I can't be of that much value right now. I've got a few suggestions, though. (...) I suggest testing the parts converted using L3Lab (...) (22 years ago, 21-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Converting AutoCAD/3D Studio/etc. to .dat with 3DWin

(...) You can already do that with many commercial CAD program by exporting to STL format and use STL2DAT converter. (URL) STL format is an industry standard for rapid prototyping machine. In this format, a part is described with triangle facets, (...) (22 years ago, 21-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Converting AutoCAD/3D Studio/etc. to .dat with 3DWin

(...) Hi Miguel - You bring up a good point. I wonder, Darrell, if you could work with Thomas Baier to possibly have the to-from LDraw format part be free of charge, period? It wouldn't affect his market for cross-advanced 3D format conversions, (...) (22 years ago, 21-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad)

  Naming of springs parts

I have modelised a the pneumatic pump. I have created two complete assemblies in two different positions. This part has a spring, so I have created two springs with different extensions.   dats for pen elements?

Re: Drill and Hooklift Truck Renders

(...) Thanks! It is good to hear that it resembles a drill in the real world, since it was a collection of features from quite a few.   Re: Converting AutoCAD/3D Studio/etc. to .dat with 3DWin

That's cool and all, but $85 to convert files to freeware is a bit steep. I've been tinkering with some maxscript to allow dat import/export from Gmax which is a freeware "game" tool. Gmax is basically a watered down version of 3DS Max. It's free (...) (22 years ago, 21-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad)

Download parts automatically with your preferred modeller?

(...) Wow. I don't think I'll try anything too ambitious with my creaky old Powerbook then! (180Mhz, 48MB, and the faster of my computers) Joking aside, those renders are quite superb Jen.
