Re: Converting AutoCAD/3D Studio/etc. to .dat with 3DWin

(...) You can already do that with many commercial CAD program by exporting to STL format and use STL2DAT converter. (URL) STL format is an industry standard for rapid prototyping machine. In this format, a part is described with triangle facets, (...) (22 years ago, 21-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Converting AutoCAD/3D Studio/etc. to .dat with 3DWin

(...) Hi Miguel - You bring up a good point. I wonder, Darrell, if you could work with Thomas Baier to possibly have the to-from LDraw format part be free of charge, period? It wouldn't affect his market for cross-advanced 3D format conversions, (...) (22 years ago, 21-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad)

  Naming of springs parts

I have modelised a the pneumatic pump. I have created two complete assemblies in two different positions. This part has a spring, so I have created two springs with different extensions. I have names these parts 2797s01 and 2797s02. OrionP, the (...) (22 years ago, 21-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.dat.parts)

  dats for pen elements?

Has anyone made dat files for the various pen elements? I've recently used a few in a steam engine model and would like to render instructions... Thanks SteveB (22 years ago, 21-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad)

Re: Drill and Hooklift Truck Renders

(...) Thanks! It is good to hear that it resembles a drill in the real world, since it was a collection of features from quite a few. The real danger when building this model in my opinion was that it would end up looking like a ray gun or (...) (22 years ago, 21-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray, lugnet.technic)

Re: Drill and Hooklift Truck Renders

(...) I had a lot longer to tweak the settings though! (...) It is one of those arty things, the clouds and ground, as they were actually taken from a photo of the real truck. The clouds were added post render as a layer behind the truck, and the (...) (22 years ago, 21-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray, lugnet.technic)

Re: Converting AutoCAD/3D Studio/etc. to .dat with 3DWin

That's cool and all, but $85 to convert files to freeware is a bit steep. I've been tinkering with some maxscript to allow dat import/export from Gmax which is a freeware "game" tool. Gmax is basically a watered down version of 3DS Max. It's free (...) (22 years ago, 21-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad)

(...) Thanks! :o) (...) Sounds like a good idea. But first, I make the features I like to have, then I'll try to optimize it. /Tore (22 years ago, 21-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray)

Download parts automatically with your preferred modeller?

hi folks, after ages I've got a new computer (waiting three days 'til my radiocity got rendered has become unbearable ;-) and reinstalled all my favourite lego-cad-progs. as usual it was a painstaking process: unzip the original ldraw-package, the (...)   Re: Drill and Hooklift Truck Renders

(...) Wow. I don't think I'll try anything too ambitious with my creaky old Powerbook then! (180Mhz, 48MB, and the faster of my computers) Joking aside, those renders are quite superb Jen. The drill was fun to see - my Dad has a blue cordless that (...) (22 years ago, 21-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad.ray, lugnet.technic)

Re: Converting AutoCAD/3D Studio/etc. to .dat with 3DWin

Hi, With all due respect, a big problem that I see here is that 3dWin is a shareware application. Personally, if I do not pay for the likes of Ldraw, MLcad, Lpub, POV or Blender, there is no way I am going to even consider paying for a format (...) (22 years ago, 21-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad)

  Converting AutoCAD/3D Studio/etc. to .dat with 3DWin

Hello all, While this certainly hasn't been a secret, I'm not sure anyone else has noticed: the latest version of TB Software's 3DWin can EXPORT .dat/.ldr files! Theoretically, this means you can now model a part in a commercial 3D CAD application (...) (22 years ago, 21-Feb-03, to lugnet.cad)

  Email for help

Re: Drill and Hooklift Truck Renders

(...) Maybe you should try LDraw Boxer (see: (URL) ) which is a real nifty application that replaces bricks with "hidden" studs for boxes sans studs. Saves a lot of parsing, especially on level 3!
