Does anyone know of any good Lego computer programs to help me create building
instructions for my F-16 and my other mocs? Because of requests I have received
on Bricklink.com and Flickr.com, I am going to be selling my mocs as kits
(complete with all parts and instructions) on my website that I am currently
creating.

I heard about Ldraw, but I was having trouble with it the last time I attempted
a download. If there is a better program, I would appreciate any suggestions.

Ryan

Hi Ryan,
People have asked me for instructions of some of my MOCs in the past, but I am
unlikely to ever do it. I installed ldraw on my laptop about a year ago. The
installation process was very smooth and the programme works as advertised. Are
you sure you've installed all the parts (both the ldraw library and the mlcad
interface) and that the paths are correct?
My problem was that I didn't have the patience to learn how to build with it. I
have dabbled around with it a bit (the fruits of my labour are on brickshelf
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=148188 ), but I found it hard
going. Especially getting everything aligned caused me quite a headache. I found
the medium grid too coarse for SNOT-building and the fine grid too fine for
larger structures. Also, as the creation grew in size, I found myself getting
confused and constantly having to change viewing angles, since some bits were
being shielded by others. That wasn't due to the software, but a result of poor
planning on my part. The people who make instructions for a living probably have
to plan the sequence in which parts of the models are built very carefully. In
any case, I am unlikely to ever try anything really complicated with it again.
Your F-16 looks like a  fairly complicated MOC to me, so it might be quite a
chore. Good luck!

Cheers,
Ralph

BTW, if you don't mind me asking, where did you get those small slopes you used
for the navigation lights, RWR blisters and the small antenna in front of the
fin , http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/50746 ?
According to Peeron, those haven't been made in medium stone. Well, they list
the Night Racer as incorporating two in mid stone, but actually owning a copy of
that set, I know those are actually dark stone.

(...) I buy all of my Lego parts on www.bricklink.com. I haven't bought an actual Lego set in years. I just order the parts in the quantities and colors that I need, so I don't accumulate a large inventory of un-used or un-needed parts. Ryan (18 years ago, 26-Jul-06, to lugnet.build.military)
