Yo, This is Shogun.

Whoah. I’ll let the other guys discuss the technical wizardry, for me Shogun is all about the art. I’m likin’ the transition from the upper to the lower knee, with the overhangs on either end. The compact hip and waist design allows you to bring the shoulder mounts further in, which apparently saves you enough weight to allow for the bigger arms. Put it all together, and the proportions are excellent. Just excellent.

Cool, thanks. It’s always a challenge to achieve balance of functionality and style. Sounds like I did good.

The color groupings appear tighter, and the detailing is more thorough than I recall seeing from you before. I see the early toes didn’t make the final cut, but compared with the rest of the mech, I think the new ones are a better size.

he, yeah. The origional toes I fell in love with, and with the various redesigns of the foot, with those toes, the foot was like over a foot long. It just looked silly. Not to mention I wasn’t real happy with the toe connection technique on the origional, kind of under built. But I agree, I think overall the new foot is much better.

And the weapons! The rifle is awesome. I halfway suspect you built that first, and then you were stuck with the task of building a mech large enough to hold it. Love the shoulder missile launchers, too. Worth the weight.

Actually, no. I had the mech in mind first and wanted to be sure to include at least one big weapon in the mix. I kept flirting with ideas and finally settled on a rifle. I was waiting for parts before I could continue with Shogun, so I did the rifle one night. Let’s all take a moment and give a big collective “thank you” to Lego for the 32L technic axle, whithout which, this rifle probably wouldn’t have been made. I should note as well that the magazine design is liberated straight off of one of the CSF boards. Where people where sharing ideas and not sure what to do with them. I forget who came up with the idea, but thank you!

   Great mech, Mark!

Thanks man!

Mark

(...) Yeah, I recognized that. I'm pretty sure it was Ley Ward's idea, which makes it kind of ironic that it got used as a massive rifle magazine. (19 years ago, 9-Feb-05, to lugnet.build.mecha, FTX)
