   Awesomeness!

Thanks!

Love - I really like the Oval Office, with the flag, the first family, that kalashnikov, etc.

I’m somewhat satisfied with how the Oval Office turned out. It’s recognizeable, which is the main thing. The real one has white-paned windows, not red, but as someone once said, “You go to build with the army of bricks you have, not the army of bricks you might want or wish at a later time”.

The blue floor is also indicative of the Clinton Oval Office, but I dared not attempt to render Bush’s current Oval Office rug in LEGO.

Was that curtain design inspired by Shawn Sullivan?

Straight outta Brikington Manor. The actual Oval Office curtains, you may have noticed in the above photo, are golden and hung straight down. I decided not to go for authenticity there because they are much more recognizeable as curtains when angled Shaun Sullivan style.

I should also throw a shout-out to Brickshelf user “wizz” whose rifle design I used (though in dark gray because I didn’t have the parts in black).

And then - LOL - you don’t get a lot of Hitler MOCs.

I was surprised how relatively easy it was to put together an unmodified LEGO torso and head that bore such a striking resemblence. Getting Osama bin Laden to be recognizeable was a much more difficult challenge--and by your comment below, it looks like I may not have been entirely successful.

On the Klan, I think it would be better if you used this piece in white. I made this vig and my wife’s first thought was that it looked like a klan guy.

Ooh, you’re totally right. If I have three of those in white, I may just be tempted to reconstruct that scene.

Forgiveness - more Bushy goodness. I just noticed that you used crates to make the desk - very effective.

It’s not exactly the spitting image of the Resolute desk, but yeah, I thought it worked nicely.

BTW, is the “hunt them down” part a real quote?

It’s more of an amalgam of several quotes by Bush in speeches soon after 9/11. The only part I didn’t draw directly from a quote was the “destroy them” part, which I actually remember being a phrase John Kerry used during the 2004 debates. If Bush did vow to “destroy” the terrorists at some point, I haven’t come across it in my limited perusing on post 9/11 speeches, but I’d be surprised if he didn’t say it at some point. He did say “those who make war against the United States have chosen their own destruction”. I certainly remember thinking in the weeks after 9/11 that if Bush said “make no mistake” one more time, I was going to slam my head into a wall.

Giving - Hmm, the proportions seem off on the sports car.

Maybe. You may have noticed that The Brick Testament, even in its depiction of modern times, has been conspicuously void of any cars up until now. That’s because I’m terrible at making minifig-scale LEGO cars. I knew I wanted one for this scene, so I started scanning through Brickshelf for inspiration. I ended up basing this one heavily on this one by “eremms”. It’s certainly a lot wider than the minifig cars most people make (and the ones made by LEGO themselves), but I like that you could actually fit two minifigs side-by-side.

I really like the photo angle on Luke 6:34.

Not sure there’s anything extraordinary about the angle I took that shot from--I think the camera was rested right on the shelf the scene was built on, so that’s maybe a bit lower an angle than I usually use. I was happy with the impression created here that this is an urban street sceen (with the blurry buildings behind the bank).

Lust - Very effective murder scene in the first pic,

Oh, right! I forgot to mention. Since these Teachings of Jesus stories make several references to the Ten Commandments, I wanted to link to my illustrations of those. But I realized that I had never gone and replaced the old versions (with the God cloud just speaking) with the newer ones I made for the Ten Commandments book. So, for anyone who hasn’t bought the Ten Commandments book, first go do so immediately, but while you’re waiting for the book to arrive, check out the new version of the commandments here.

and the payoff in the last scene is very funny.

Yeah, yikes!

Hey, I’ve got to go right now. I’ll come back to the other parts later.

Cool, thanks as ever for the great comments.

-Brendan

(...) I fear that some of these scenes, such as the depictions of Bush in "forgiveness" are too contemporaneous and won't stand the test of time (as no doubt the Office Space scene will). Also, was Bush's utterance of "comdemn" intentional? If so, (...) (18 years ago, 14-Jul-06, to lugnet.build.ancient, FTX)
