    building problems —Anne Sullivan
Hi all, I'm new to lego world, I never had them as a child but have gotten heavily into them lately. I really enjoy building my sets but now I'm looking to build my own things. Upon doing so I found out that I have a deficiency. I seem to have a lot (...) (25 years ago, 6-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

(...) I have some, but the remainder of this post is a bit lengthy so bear with me if you can stand it :) I love to hear myself talk.. (...) Actually, that's not strange at all. If I can assume for a moment advantages that you may already have: 1. (...) (25 years ago, 6-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

         Re: building problems —David Zorn
Tom's tips are great. I suggest starting slowly. Like drawing still life, start with simple, manageable projects. Build one room houses, simple trucks and planes. Things no bigger than 2 handfulls. My father taught me to build with wood by making me (...) (25 years ago, 6-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

Re: building problems —Gary R. Istok
Wow, good explanation Tom! All I want to add is that Anne, I use your method of construction for most of my new LEGO buildings. I call it prototyping. I build one wall (and then rebuild ... rebuild ... rebuild) until I get it the way I want it to (...) (25 years ago, 8-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

(...) Ha! :D Here's a "mee too" but well worth it: Gary, I'm starting to go through cathedral withdrawals. NO pressure though... none at all...... nope.........        (...) Thanks for encouragement folks, I wish there were more hours in the day for work, family, friends AND Lego. Tom, I haven't done too much on the history of LEGO since the Classic Windows and Doors (except for a brief forray into Fence pieces a (...) (25 years ago, 10-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

         Re: building problems —Tom McDonald
(...) Very cool. Stone Fort has a very nice design appeal. I enjoyed seeing Imbruglio's again. The cathedrals were nice bits of eye-candy. Even the small cathedral is enjoyable in its simplicity. Nice work indeed. (I even enjoyed the bananas on the (...) (25 years ago, 11-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

        Re: building problems —John Matthews
For me 2d is an abstract concept, much the same as black and white photography. 3d is real, equating in some manner to color photography. Does that make sense? <shrug> Hope it was helpful somehow... John Matthews Anne Sullivan wrote in message ... (...) (25 years ago, 6-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

         Re: building problems —Mark Tarrabain
(...) Interesting. We are exposed to 2 dimensional imagery every day that most people interpret as realistic: Television, color photography, movies, and even the images that are formed on the retina of our own eyes are two dimensional.         Re: building problems —Larry Pieniazek
Hi Anne, and welcome to the hobby! Others have posted some good ideas. Here's my two cents. Remember that old joke: "How do you get to Carnegie Hall?" "Practice, Practice, Practice" Well, it applies here. To be a better builder, you need to build. I (...) (25 years ago, 6-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

        Re: building problems —Kevin Wilson
Hi Anne, I have a few suggestions for you. 1. Start small. Leave the 2 foot long masterpiece till later and build smaller simpler things for now. They can be small versions of the whatever-it-is you want to build 2 feet long <g>. 2. Know what you're (...) (25 years ago, 6-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

         Re: building problems —Larry Pieniazek
Good tips. I can't emphasise enough the power of doing design studies. Bits and pieces that you can work from after you're happy. In fact, building, then copying and improving with the other one in front of you, if you have enough pieces, is a GREAT (...) (25 years ago, 6-Mar-99, to lugnet.build)

        Re: building problems —Anne Sullivan
Wow. Thanks for all the great advice everyone! I'm already starting on some of your advice and trying to build the alternative models, or improving on current models.
